Rolling Stone spoke to two organizers of the Jan. 6 rally, according to a new report. In so doing, they outed a slate of Republican officials and revealed that Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) claimed, ahead of the rally, that some protesters would be given a "blanket pardon" from President Donald Trump.
While Republican members of Congress participated in the planning discussions leading into the Jan. 6 attack, top Trump aide Katrina Pierson was a "key liaison between the organizers of protests against the election and the White House." Pierson worked for Trump's campaign in 2016 and 2020.

(1,202 posts)Can we trust any of this reporting? A few articles seemed to have sprung up over the weekend and I'm sorry, but I simply do not trust the media at this point.

We should be skeptical, but Rolling Stone is a good source.

Raw Story does not seem to do much in the way of original reporting. They tend to report other's work with a tendentious, click-bait slant. When I see a post from Raw Story I ignore it and find the source for it.

This is not helpful rhetoric.

(49,024 posts)Please don't advocate for right-wing authoritarian tactics.
Rights of defendants and due process and freedom of media are fundamental because THEY PROTECT YOUR RIGHTS.
The only reason that thousands of Democrats were not thrown in jail when tRump had the Senate and House for two years is because of rights protecting them just as rights protect people from YOU, NOW.
Stop with the authoritarian BS, whether left or right wing authoritarianism.
Please get some more wisdom about rights.

(6,925 posts)If you cant distinguish between public, non-profit broadcasting, commercial broadcast media, or propaganda media you are the problem.
Expecting others to also hide their heads in the sand and ignore 2021 isnt helpful, its neglectful of our obligations as friends to help each other. Propaganda media wants nothing more than for people to say I dont trust any media company to hide among the legitimate broadcasters they masquerade as.

(81,543 posts)For the sake of clarity, we will refer to one of the sources as a rally organizer and the other as a planner. Rolling Stone has confirmed that both sources were involved in organizing the main event aimed at objecting to the electoral certification, which took place at the White House Ellipse on Jan. 6. Trump spoke at that rally and encouraged his supporters to march to the Capitol. Some members of the audience at the Ellipse began walking the mile and a half to the Capitol as Trump gave his speech. The barricades were stormed minutes before the former president concluded his remarks.
These two sources also helped plan a series of demonstrations that took place in multiple states around the country in the weeks between the election and the storming of the Capitol. According to these sources, multiple people associated with the March for Trump and Stop the Steal events that took place during this period communicated with members of Congress throughout this process.
Along with Greene, the conspiratorial pro-Trump Republican from Georgia who took office earlier this year, the pair both say the members who participated in these conversations or had top staffers join in included Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.), Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.), Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.), Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), and Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas).
We would talk to Boeberts team, Cawthorns team, Gosars team like back to back to back to back, says the organizer.

(19,082 posts)This was a huge rally, it's not surprising at all rally organizers were communicating with politicians. And there's nothing illegal about that.
Unless someone ties Congress People to the violence, this is just rehashing the same details. Offering blanket pardons is the only thing new here, but that's going to be impossible to prove the offering of them was for the activities that ended up occurring.
If Congress people gave tours and told rioters security details, that's something that might bare fruit, but so far this is nothing new.
