General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsSo I turned on CNN and MSNBC, at 6:00 AM EST, and the were headlining with the Baldwin "rust"
shooting. Turned it off and rechecked an hour later. They were still talking about the shooting
Are they going to talk about the allegations of elected congress people being directly involved in the January 6th overthrow of our government?
While the shooting is tragic and should be mentioned, in the balance of issues that will have an impact on the American people, it doesnt rate that high
Maybe they will bring back the issues with Britney Spears while they are at it
Is that really headline news?
While I am sure they will discuss members of Congress involvement in the insurrection, I would think that should have been the headline story

(102,320 posts)he knows him personally from Alec's time working at MSNBC. And there is nothing that Mika loves better than to propel her own unearned self-sanctimony at others--especially those Joe finds offensive.
Uggh. Just turn it off as I did.

(4,919 posts)... I thought he was mispronouncing Alec's name this AM, too... But, then realized he was briefly talking about his producer, Alex, trying to get statements from the Rust production company.
You may be correct, though... But, I only noticed it for a bit this AM.

(5,586 posts)Therefore, if we actually do have inflation, we're going to take the fall for it. The GOP and the media will be able to pull out clips of Manchin equating the spending with inflation, and then we're dead meat.
We better hope inflation goes away.

(90,347 posts)... think voter suppression is a problem.
We don't have a democracy if even the left in America think the country should error on the side of making it REALLY easy for all eligible to vote.

(21,377 posts)they control the narrative. If every cable news station were talking about the coup plotters that might put pressure on Garland to act and we can't have that.
I'm still waiting to find out who authorized the Capitol tours and who disabled the panic buttons on the desks. Gone into the dust bin of history.

(3,064 posts)and many others the only source of televised news was CBS, NBC, and ABC.
And the news wasn't expected to turn a buck. It usually lost money but it was considered a public service. And it was high quality, no nonsense reporting of the important issues of the day.
I doubt we'll ever see that kind of non partisan, straightforward news casting again. It's all about profit, and worse yet, propaganda.

I mean....what's all this nonsense about "fairness" anyway? Fairness is a Democratic concept.

(42 posts)2.5 hours later and they're still talking about RUST. Granted, it needs some attention, BUT, our democracy is being put on the line each and every day. And I don't see any progress in us making an attempt to keep it. WTF
In my book, that should take precedence.
Making sure Trump can never be elected again should be number 2, which brings it back around to Jan 6.

(94,657 posts)...the bulk of the hour on MSNBC was about planning for the Jan 6 riot and conflicts over COVID vaccinations.
Perhaps offering up a story people are INTERESTED in kept them around for the other important stories.

(131 posts)That sizzling Rolling Stone story must be confirmed by a second source before it goes on the air. I'm sure all the political journos in D.C. are scrambling to confirm the story. Until it's confirmed, it's the "scoop" of Rolling Stone.
I did notice that Raw Story carried an article detailing the RS story. (They are more on the journalistic fringe and don't adhere to the normal journalistic standards that the big media outlets follow.)

(7,914 posts)Content and Context are long gone from News. They enjoyed TLG as a target and a subject because they could pump out something every 15 minutes and it was juicy click bait every time. They no longer know how to construct an in-depth program nor wish to. The excuse I hear most often is that it costs more to do that and the public hasn't got the attention span to watch it. The same excuse they have pedaled since Reagan only now they blame it on people who prefer to read headlines on their phones rather than the content below the headline.
Imagine...

I don't get it. A terribly tragic case, but it was a murder (and eventual suicide) of a young woman no one had ever heard about before.
No exaggeration, they've spent 5-10 minutes every hour for weeks now. There are about 60 homicides PER DAY in the US, yet they've spent weeks talking about just this one.
PS - I just put CNN for the first time this morning, after the commercial they're going to report on "latest updates" of the Alec Baldwin accidental shooting.
No doubt it's have the banner "BREAKING NEWS!"
