1. Peg it to CPI

This is something that can get bipartisan support next year. They can increase the minimum wage with Republican support, not to $15 right away, but to something like $12, but they have a shot to peg it to CPI so it goes up yearly.

With the shortage of workers, the minimum wage isn't a pressing issue right now, but it will be eventually, so get it raised now and make sure it doesn't lag far behind permanently.

Someone should write a bill to raise the minimum wage by $1/hr each year until it matches the 1968 purchasing power parity, and then adjust it by the CPI afterwards. That would be about $12.60 in today's money, and it shouldn't be overly difficult to get the democrats united behind it.
