Here's what I would do if I was in charge of a major news network. Every time there is a Sinema story, I would show stock footage of her. The catch is it would always be her wearing the same outfit. Every time. One of the real gaudy ones. I'm sure this would drive her nuts, because she obviously spends a fortune on clothes and never wears the same thing twice.
Okay, I wouldn't really do that, I'm just feeling mischievous today.

(81,527 posts)ESPECIALLY when you ARE a United States Senator. She looks like shes about to pick the kids up at school on her carpool day. She looks dressed to run a garage sale on her driveway. Or to run to the vet or grocery store.
Damn, girlfriend, decorum matters! No wonder so few of us take her seriously.

This post was really just about Aaron Neville... the OP message context eluded me when the true musician entered the scene
Loved loved loved you with your brothers in concert. Play on and on and on!

(1,910 posts)Sorry, hate her obstructionism but love her wardrobe. I HATE formal BS clothes. Whoever invented the suit and high heel shoes is evil.
I have always hated the garbage that you can dress a certain way and be considered proper or formal. The heck with that, I have a 16 year old daughter who is a top tennis junior on her way to be a pro player and she has never worn anything but shorts in her life. She goes into sponsor meetings with people wearing suits and dominates them while wearing a tank top and tennis shorts. We make it a point of emphasis to dress however the heck we want and always will. I'll go to a dang funeral with shorts, whatever.
So way to go Sinema!!

(12,480 posts)And my favorite punk war jacket I wore for decades.
I hate dress codes.
They are the bane of people who are creative. Who gives a shit what someone else wears,as long as they are not having dangly stuff around machinery, having hair falling inthe casserole or showing naughty bits in public who cares there is way more important shit than how conforming to arbritary standards someones outfit is.
But I also hate senimas bullshit.
electric_blue68
(14,956 posts)You can even be subtly creative there too. 👍
I was there at CBGB'S near the beginning of that scene! No mohawk for me, but they're cool.

now high heels is one thing and luckily none of my office jobs ever forced me to wear them! Though I like a 1", 1 1/2 inch heel at times. Otherwise flats, and sneakers.
There is a time and place for formal clothes. It partly conveys "pay attention" "this is important" (in a certain way).
I love casual clothes! I was working when they introduced Casual Fridays in the work place.
I also loved the more artistic jobs were I always dressed causal.
Well hurrah for your daughter. MY *mom* in HS waaaay back was a good enough Tennis Player in HS to go Pro herself.
She decided she wanted to be a dressmaker. She designed, and could sew up a storm. She made casual and party clothes for us, but she knew how to wear formal clothes herself, and pick them out for us when we were younger.
She knew the value of different degrees of formal ware.

(43,582 posts)If you or anyone showed up in shorts and a tank top for a major meeting at the firms I have worked or interned at, you would get bounced out (and rightly so). There are so many ways to not look stodgy and quotidian, but still face up as serious and professional.
That is perfectly fine, but you cannot complain when such choices limit (and again, rightly so) certain options in your lives. Choices have consequences, regardless whether you like it or not.
Sinema's clothing choices often expose her nature as a non-serious, narcissistic, bad faith actor when it come to her role as a powerful legislator.

(5,738 posts)Shorts and a tank top at a funeral disrespects the deceased and the loved ones there. A sports outfit at a sponsors meeting simply calls attention to the sport , but such attire at a business meeting gives a bad impression, whether or not anyone directly tells you so. Clothes make a statement, and dressing completely contrary to the occasion makes the statement that rules don't apply to you and that you think you are an exception.

I might still be re-acting to the dress code we had in my high school. It all seems so funny now.
