We know congressman like Manch8n and Sinema need to be primaries out. But how do you do this when a States population is moderate and a progressive would have a landslide defeat in the general election?
To do this we need a significant increase in progressive voters in those states, in the millions. Exactly how do we do this?

(19,114 posts)S0 more than half vote, we just have to make sure the people who came out to vote against Trump in 2020 come out in 2022.
And here's another thing. In 2018, and again in 2021 in Georgia, Republicans saw what happens when Trump isn't on the ballot, their voters don't vote.

(36,112 posts)Not sure wanting Trump out tells us anything about how moderate a region is though
People might vote huge for a Liz Cheney because they want Biden out. It always works this way with POTUS elections. Again, doesn't tell us anything about leanings

(43,049 posts)We need a great number of people to move them to that slow change -- local assessor, school board, dogcatcher, town board...
They didn't become what they are overnight, so why would they change again overnight?
Never forget that buried deep down we share many basic beliefs-- build on those.

How is Voting against THIS, Progressive?

I have doubts about the progressiveness of some who call themselves such.
Really!
Convince me. Cuz perhaps I'm trying to correlate today's Prs with the greatest Progresssive of our time. Sen Paul Wellstone.
Who would never stand on spite just to vote NO on a bill with so much to offer.
Perhaps I'm stuck in the past like an aging Establishment Progressive.
It makes no sense to vote NO.

(11,068 posts)Therefore it is worthless.
Never mind that they werent part of the platform. We have the presidency and congress so we must do everything or well never win again. (Which sounds like a threat from certain circles, but whatever)

(15,325 posts)Same with GND. Another campaign slogan that as of early this year, the one designated to write a policy guideline, Saikat Chakrabarti, Still had not written anything.
So perhaps they can write the policy plans with the financial how-to's, for GND & M4A & prepare them to be presented.
They are legislators. And that is the only requirment needed to write & present a bill.
Perhaps they should be asked 'When those preferred bills will finally be ready to be presented by legislators', enough talk. Where are the bills?
Ask them.

(10,435 posts)now progressives are being shafted by conservadems and therefore we're all being shafted. It's that simple. Should they instead smile, say "thank you may I have another?" because that's what it seems like is being demanded of us progressives.

(30,613 posts)Progressives have been vigorously supporting our President's agenda. I can't say the same for "moderates" who are trying to tank it. That is quite apparent, and if you believe otherwise, it's unlikely you can be persuaded. Perhaps you support something less than our President's agenda.
Budi
(15,325 posts)They have certainly not supported the President's agenda. That is a false statement & can be proven by their own voting record.
Just the opposite.

(58,785 posts)Incredibly diverse as we are, our progressive liberal ideology and goals unite the vast majority of us. It helps that liberals created democracy and can work well with others.
Exceptions in congress are a couple dozen conservative Dems, including Manchin, and it's looking like possibly Sinema. Currently 2 of those are hamstringing 250 liberals by eliminating a few big provisions.
We also have some farther left members who feel they are (and are) significantly different from our @250 liberal progressives; they call themselves "Progressives," as in the only true, and not to be mistaken for all the 100 progressives in the Progressive Caucus. A very few of those are threatening to kill not just parts but the entirety of the historic bills.
What we need is just to elect some more progressives who will unite to pass progressive legislation.
* CHECK THEIR HISTORY; avoid people who don't have one (let them prove themselves in state offices).
* Avoid electing conservatives in con districts: nominate someone moderate enough for some to like.
* Avoid those who say they'll "reform," not unite with, Democrats.
* Avoid like the plague candidates who lie about Democrats (pretty much same as above). VERY bad sign.
* More, never EVER vote for candidates who seek to deceive about anything to get elected. BAAAD sign.
This is for those who are serious about getting progressive advances passed through congress. We have a whole lot of good people who are a lot more frustrated than anyone here by having their work blocked by a handful of conservatives on one side and potentially intransigent ideologues on the other.

(7,509 posts)Sinema can be easily primaried by a real democrat who can win statewide.
West Virginia is a lost cause.
Budi
(15,325 posts)That makes the current power of candidates like the Manchins & Sinemas irrelevant in the critical years ahead as we put Trump R's damage further in the past.

(7,509 posts)And other states more ripe for pickup than WV. Young people have left that state because there's no hope and living conditions are backwards thanks to their elected representatives.
Budi
(15,325 posts)And Stacy Abrams can't do it all by herself!!
There have to be some Republicans ripe for the picking, somewhere.
Some R states like WV & TX are difficult but there have to be even a couple somewhere that are winnable.

(5,559 posts)Too much cultural baggage and disconnect on social issues.
With the country increasingly polarized on urban / rural lines, and the ease of building social media echo chambers for oneself, people are less likely than ever to get significant exposure to people with different ideas.
