I assume they (some poor slob in India) are robo-calling multiple numbers at once, and they only talk to the 1st sucker that answers.

are really not cold calling. Most of the time it is outsourced cold calling. Many tech companies have inside sales. It really is a specialized skill when you are cold calling into very high level contacts. I was the main cold caller for a company that we took from 6 people to 350. I was responsible for many millions of dollars.

I'm not getting cold calls from specialized contacts. My niece does that at a tech firm in SF; I know the difference.

I'm getting the same BS scammer/spam calls everyone is: fake Amazon, fake Apple, my Car Warranty is running out.

Indians are very definitely working in these scams: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/27/magazine/scam-call-centers.html

sales. That is where the real money is at. Some of the guys and women can make over a million a year. Of course if you don't make your number you are out of a job. I am in the midst of starting a company from scratch with the same guys with I worked. Now we are starting another software company. talk about difficult cold calling. That is the penultimate. Evangelizing is really hard. FYI, I cold called the three letter government entities and got into them.

.

1) I state they are performing 2 of the 5 most deadly sins of Hinduism (stealing from others and associating with others who steal).

2) Mention how Asteya (The virtue of non-stealing) means nothing to them.

3) State that according to Manu, stealing leads to sickness, evident in the nails.

4) Wish them good luck in Yama (840K Hells sort of like Dante's Inferno) and hopefully on rebirth they won't suffer deformities, birth defects. sickness and chronic suffering. This is a major fear.

They will get pissed off and hang up in anger. Hopefully, it sends a few of them to revisit their actions.

4-5 a day. We just had a creepy one where they asked for my SO by first name. Usually, there's silence and then they hang up.

I also get another bizarre call where a man asks if the woman of the house is home. all on landline.

I get them on both my landline AND cell. The ones coming to my cell are much more likely to be speaking Mandarin.

.

1) Probe calls to see if someone is there and the it is followed by a live caller.

2) People who call are at a desk with 10 cell phones and dial a bunch of numbers and can only answer one. So if more than one person answers, they can't get to it.

3) The auto call center dials a bunch of spoofed numbers and the pickup rate exceeds what their phone system or operator can handle. They'll drop calls instead of placing them on hold because their systems can pump out just that many calls per hour, they'll get you the next time.

I have been answering these calls and waste their time. If you don't answer, they'll just keep dialing and dialing. This way, I take up their time, make it painful for them, and hopefully they'll drop me off the list. Which happens if you do it so many times. I let them know I'll keep wasting their time because I'm stuck at home with nothing better to do.

Because of this, my daughter just sent me the following tiktok: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZM85ec2YX/

They also call my work cell. I get a bunch of Medicare and Life Insurance calls lately. Solar calls are less frequent. Of course, there's always the Customs & Border Security calls and those about my Social Security number being suspended.

Not many call me twice or leave voice mail.. Those that do I block, which only takes seconds to do.

The few who leave voice mail are usually car warranty bs or telling me I’m going to be arrested. It must suck to have to do this nonsense to make a living.

23. Those are all spam callers - robodialers

They hang up because they don't want to leave a message. If they left messages then we'd all file complaints against them and we would block their numbers (those of us who have number blocking.)

So they're just annoying and wasting everyone's time. The phone companies don't care because they make money off the robo-dialers. My phone company is Verizon and they provide a free app called Nomorobo which does a pretty good job of recognizing the spam callers and shutting their calls off. See if you can get Nomorobo, it might be free. I can block up to 300 numbers on my landline.

-- A 279.65 charge has been made to your walmart account (or some variation of this) ...

-- The police are on the way to you house and will be there in 20 minutes with a search warrant ...

-- This is the "retired police officers' charity" ( or some variation)...

I nearly always angrily hang up without listening to the rest of it. Although I wish now that I had listened to the one about the police coming with a search warrant, which I only got 2-3 times about a year ago and haven't heard since.
