Patagonia CEO: Companies should join us in boycotting Facebook

(CNN Business)In the wake of the revelations in the Facebook Papers, Patagonia CEO Ryan Gellert on Thursday called for companies to join the brand in pressuring Facebook to fix its platforms.

"We believe Facebook has a responsibility to make sure its products do no harm, and until they do, Patagonia will continue to withhold our advertising," Gellert said in a statement to CNN. "We encourage other businesses to join us in pushing Facebook to prioritize people and planet over profit."
In the summer of 2020, Patagonia joined a growing list of companies pulling ads from Facebook (FB) platforms as part of an advertiser boycott.
"Patagonia stopped all paid advertising on Facebook platforms in June 2020 because they spread hate speech and misinformation about climate change and our democracy. We continue to stand by that boycott 16 months later," Gellert said.

2. I have never been a fan of Facebook. I keep in touch with a handful of people I don't get to see

on there. I'm beginning to think I should just text or email. I got a birthday notification for a former coworker only to discover on visiting her timeline that she had moved to Florida, gotten close to the lord and died of Covid. I think she was unvaccinated. Another coworker who is also closer to the lord these days has gone full MAGA and was posting borderline right wing hate memes that were debunked on Snopes in less than a minute. She posted the one about a mother and daughter who were approached by a not white skinned man asking to smell perfume samples that were actually chloroform and how they would never be allowed to leave the house without daddy and his gun again (among others).
Facebook is a cesspool that needs to be dealt with.

My Facebook experience lasted all of one day. After seeing the human zoo it could possibly turn into (and did) I closed my day old account.

The incredible amount of lies and hate spread from Zuck's little creation is beyond the pale of anything formerly know to humankind.

They're not addicted to connecting with people, they're addicted to the endless parade of useless bullshit posted there.

But they'll tell you they love the recipes they get, the wonderful people the connect with etc.

Started buying their stuff in the late 80's/early 90's. Yes, a bit more expensive than some other brands, but it LASTS FOREVER, they have a great repair/replacement policy, and even when it gets old, their apparel becomes retro-chic again! And you can't beat the company's dedication to environmental and political causes.

7. They walk the talk. Their repair policy rocks and you can trade in with them, too. Helps the planet

Clothing takes up a lot of landfill space and the production of clothing has an environmental cost, too, so Patagonia makes it easy to minimize their environmental footprint. This is exactly the kind of business we need to support.
