I knew of him, of course, but he exploded into my consciousness during a press conference with Nixon, right around when Watergate was turning serious. Nixon called on him for his question, and there was a bit of a stir among the rest of the gallery.

RMN: "Well, that's quite a stir. Are you thinking of running for office, Dan?"

DR: "No, Mr. President. Are you?"

Perfection. It's stuck with me for almost 40 years.
