You get Covid-19 by being around unvaccinated people. Even if vaccinated, you can still get it if you're exposed to enough viral load, so there's the answer. Stop being around people that are not vaccinated, or wear a mask at all times. Obviously no one is wearing a mask in their home or other's homes, or restaurants and on and on.

That's my take.

simple way that Joe Kiernan on CNBC said it..." The vaccine is not a therapeutic, it just stimulates your own
immune system to repel the virus. Thus, it's only as good as your immune system." I would add, as you said, only as good as the size of the viral load you are near, and how long you are around the person, whether or not you have a mask on and how strong the ventilation is. My vaccinated FIL caught it and died after spending an hour in a pickup truck with an unvaccinated infected person.

Don't let your guard down - even around vaccinated people.

Even if you hang around with fully vaccinated people, if any of them have COVID (especially if they are sure it isn't COVID), and you are exposed in their first 5 days of infection, you are just as likely to get COVID as if you hang out with unvaccinated people.

Wear your masks. Stay safe.

and is vaccinated. (I'm a little surprised she is vaccinated. Not that she has had COVID twice, since she is quasi-anti-mask (she says it makes her claustrophobic), and definitely a right wing idiot. So I'm sure that she isn't wearing a mask unless it is mandated (and enforced), like it is at work.

But as to this case - I'd guess that she had Alpha and then Delta.

Vaccination lowers your risk of becoming seriously ill. It has never been claimed that it is 100% effective.

supposedly was careful AND already had covid once getting it again. This seems like
quite out of the norm. And can't be explained away by saying vaccine not 100% effective??

I get it, we can't question anything because we absolutely need more to
get the vaccine. On the flip side, ignoring reality doesn't help IMHO

Yes, of course you can have a breakthrough case. And clearly that can be explained with the vaccine not being 100% effective. What else do you think does not 100% effective mean? Breakthrough cases were already a known and expected reality before the more serious Delta variant took over. It was a direct conclusion from the trials.

And what does it mean you cannot question anything? I don't really get what's so special about a breakthrough case almost 1.5 years after a previous infection with a different variant.

Just like a common cold or the flu.

We have a 60 year old guy at work that got it in mid-2020, got the Pfizer vax early this year, and was out with Delta in August. The Delta infection was just a sniffle he said though because he was vaxxed most likely.
