(8,045 posts)I'm convinced that this belief structure is behind so much of the rot on the right.
I worked in Texas higher education when Rick Perry was governor. Dominionists were already infiltrating all the top positions in my school, quietly replacing employees with their own. They were rotten to the core, but untouchable.

(18,900 posts)Dominionists are all in the same rotten, foul, rancid barrel.
Wrapping themselves in the shroud of Jesus but in reality they are just a bunch of Neo-Christian Nazis and Fascists bound and determined to establish a Neo-Christian theocracy then trash and eliminate democracy so their Christian utopia can flourish no longer impeded by progressives and socialists.

(8,045 posts)She did not exhibit any of the authoritarian tendencies of a lot of religionists. But another former teacher went full authoritarian when she got religion. Religion seems to strongly appeal to authoritarian personalities.
I am hoping at some point that the benign religions somehow come out with a compelling message that can reel their more tyrannical brethren back in. But not holding my breath on that.

(8,045 posts)What an amazing story - an early protector of the mentally ill. A worthy saint to honor indeed.
