... in my left arm (half-dose since I'm not immunocompromised) and a flu vaccine in my right arm.
About 23 hours have passed since the shots and, despite half the dosage compared to my second Moderna shot, the side-effects are already stronger from the Moderna booster compared to the second dose from over 6 months ago.
I'm more tired than last time, but I've also experienced chills unlike last time. And I have a slight fever already, which took over 24 hours to happen with the second dose.
The soreness of the left arm is far more widespread than the right arm (flu shot). The left arm is sore from the shoulder all the way to the elbow, but the soreness of the right arm is still a tiny area directly around the injection point.
Pretty boring, I know, but that's my update.

(8,432 posts)Don't know if it was full or half dose.
Slight soreness at injection site. Pretty much the same as my first two.

(30,613 posts)I'll still get my booster when they allow it. Not sure whether they'll legalize mix-n-match booster brand by then; I'll keep my eyes open.

(33,072 posts)Could you talk my cousin into doing the same. He just doesn't get that he is under-protected.

(11,809 posts)There was another similar chart that had Moderna's increase at over 90-fold. So show him this. Maybe that'll help. It's expected for the J&J to increase at first, then decline, making a booster needed.

(6,662 posts)after having gotten Moderna rounds one and two back in April. I signed up at out local grocery's pharmacy and had to say I'd gotten the Pfizer rounds one and two to get the automated system to make an appointment for me. But, when the time came for the shot and the nurse reviewed my card and saw my Moderna record, she said it was no big deal and others were doing the same.

(15,526 posts)... from the CDC which updated in mid-October. Supposedly almost 90% of the adult population qualifies now -- if 6 months have passed since Moderna or Pfizer, or 2 months for J&J.
I don't look overweight at all, but I told the pharmacy that I qualify because of a high body-mass index (BMI). That's mostly because I'm broad-shouldered and have muscular thighs.
They didn't seem to care at all, happy to give me the booster if I wanted it.

(15,526 posts)... before they even asked.
Then the pharmacist looked at me like, "We don't care."
Only asked me if I was immunocompromised to determine the dosage.

(11,809 posts)I got the Moderna booster about 10 days ago. No reaction to the original J&J last March, but felt like complete crap and only got out of bed for maybe 5 hrs total the day after the Moderna.
I was thinking if the half-dose was that bad, what would the full doses have been like. So it's interesting that the half-dose affected you more

(15,526 posts)... simply because the foreign spike proteins appeared yet again, not so much because of the amount.

(76,982 posts)Booster was quite mild, and lasted a few hours.
2nd shot was more intense & lasted 4 times longer.
Seems very dependent on the individual.

(15,526 posts)I'll be curious if my side-effects don't last as long this time.
Perhaps a stronger initial reaction, but not as long-lasting?
Obviously don't know yet since I still feel pretty lousy.

(76,982 posts)...a sight headache, muscle & joint soreness in the upper back & shoulders, and a fever that ran from 99.5 to 100.8. Lasted from 6am to 8pm.
This time, I felt a little flushed, but my temperature never went above 98.1. Mild soreness in the arm where the shot went in, and a bit tired. Zero headache.
But, it lasted from around 7am to about 11, so only 30% as long.
For me, it was lesser & shorter.
Hope you get back to normal quickly
Buckeye_Democrat
(15,526 posts)Except for my left arm still being a little sore, I'm back to normal.
My temp was over 102 F earlier today. It's 98.8 now.
The highest temp for me after the second shot was 101 F.
I'm pretty sure that my side-effects didn't last as long this time, but I'm not sure. They definitely ended sooner, but they started sooner too.

(19,788 posts)and next week I'll get my Moderna booster.
The lady at the clinic said that she's seen more side effects if booster is taken with the flu shot.

(15,526 posts)My report isn't very scientific since I received the flu shot too.
It's just that flu shots in the past never caused me many side-effects, and the soreness in that arm is pretty typical for me too -- i.e., almost nothing.
Bettie
(19,788 posts)has noted people calling in about side effects when they had both on the same day, so they are recommending two weeks between the flu shot and booster.
I'm happy to go with that. I'm actually not quite at six months post shot 2 anyway.
Buckeye_Democrat
(15,526 posts)I'm actually glad about my side-effects since it indicates my immune system is working.
Not too happy at this moment, of course, but my reactions will surely diminish over time.

(21,883 posts)Moderna. My arm was sore last night, but is better today. Flu shot was 3 weeks ago.

(31 posts)Got mine last week, and unlike my second dose, was NOT sick with chills and fever for 12 hours. The only effect I noticed was a soreness at the injection site for 3 days. Just an FYI about my experience with getting 2 shots in 1 day - 10 years ago I got a flu shot and a pneumonia shot on the same day - different arms. For about 18 months afterwards, I would get FUO every few months. The fevers would spike to 102, then drop when I took Aleve or Advil. This would go on for a day or 2. Finally, I went to my Doctor who could find nothing wrong, and just diagnosed the condition as fever of unknown origin. Last year, I got a flu shot for the first time in 10 years. No problem. For me, taking 2 powerful innoculations at the same time is not good. Maybe others have had this experience too.
Buckeye_Democrat
(15,526 posts)My past flu shots didn't cause any noticeable side-effects for me at all, except a very mild and small area of soreness at the injection site (like this time).
But doing them together might've indeed enhanced the side-effects, since my immune system is reacting to two different "foreign" substances.
I_UndergroundPanther
(13,375 posts)The second shot.
The side effects were much more pronounced when I got both shots at the same time.

(4,919 posts)Chills, major aches, dizzy... The first two Moderna shots were not so bad... Just a day of feeling flu-like.
Day three now, and I still feel bad... But, hey, I know it working!
Buckeye_Democrat
(15,526 posts)That my immune system seems to be reacting just fine.
After I received the half-dose, I was thinking, "Do I really know that I'm not immunocompromised? I haven't even seen a doctor for a couple years."

(43,850 posts)This is so interesting. I hope theyre studying what might influence differences in reaction in the same person.
My arm hurts at the site and Im a tad achy and tired but I had a fever and flu sx last time for about 36 hours.
I wonder if the chips malfunctioning.
Buckeye_Democrat
(15,526 posts)My left arm (booster) is so much more sore, I was joking to myself about all of the tiny spike proteins ripping through it.
That was yet another CRAZY idea that was mentioned by a right-winger months ago.

(1,861 posts)to schedule appt for my booster at CVS. Date of my last shot and birthdate. It said I was qualified even though I dont turn 65 until the 19th. Was able to get an appointment for next Monday.
Buckeye_Democrat
(15,526 posts)My pharmacy's website also provided a list of qualifiers -- age, being overweight, having diabetes, etc. -- to get the shot, but it didn't ask me to answer HOW I qualified. Then the pharmacists there obviously didn't care at all. They only wanted to know if I had a weak immune system, in which case they would've given me a full dose instead of a half-dose. If I wanted the booster, they were happy to give it to me.
By the way, my side-effects are over now! My temp is 98.8 F now, after being over 102 F earlier today. And no more chills, dizziness, etc. My left arm is still sore, but that has diminished a lot too.

(26,696 posts)No real arm pain, but flu-like symptoms kicked in about 12 hours after and lasted 12-18 hours. Not enough that I couldn't work through, but less pleasant than the first round...

(15,526 posts)More intense but briefer (I think) for the booster in my case as well.
