https://apnews.com/article/virginia-election-ap-votecast-survey-75520c5c9a245bee384526abc138a61aThis is a much more optimistic exit poll for us Dems.
56% say Virginia economy is in good shape (YoungKlan made it a focus in the campaign).
6 in 10 favored legal and fair access to abortion.
The economy and Pandemic were the top two issues.
More info at the link.
Edit: I do not put as much into exit polls as some, but I need something right now.

(16,616 posts)It's a relief to see that "school boards" isn't in the top two.
Thanks for sharing that.

(97 posts)Either way this election goes, there must be an awakening in this party. I dont want to see a higher % of older voters, but I want to see the young educated voters lead the way. I am late 60s and have been voting since 18.
If we dont want to see a right wing coup take over, old white men telling a woman that at 6 weeks they need to do this or that, but cant do this or that, continued threats against blacks, Asians, Latinos, seniors, women, LGTBQ, then we MUST CONVINCE OUR YOUNG CITIZENS TO VOTE.
If things dont go as hoped today, remember, we have a year before midterms, and a lot can change by then.

(3,213 posts)When they sit out, Republicans win and make everything they care about worse.
If 18-30 year olds had like 90% turnout, Republicans would never win.

(19,966 posts)calling the race for Youngkin even though there is lots of early vote and mail in votes to count.
There's still nearly 30% of the vote to be counted, so I'm sending out positivity that Terry McAuliffe can pull it out.
BTW, Welcome to DU @Nokillmessanger

(251 posts)>A quarter of Virginia voters said the debate over teaching critical race theory in schools was the single most important factor in their vote for governor, and 71% of those voters backed Youngkin.<
That's enough to swing an election.
Bill Clinton won on a message about the economy -- "It's the economy stupid."
Obama likewise -- "Hope and Change"
Telling people everything is fine when food is up 20% and gas is $4.50 just seems out of touch. Time to fire some consultants.
And they need to do something about the Lincoln Project meddler/grifters. Those Republicans are sucking up million$ in Dem donations and spending it on counter-productive things like the tiki torch disaster which completely fed the GOP narrative about underhanded techniques. In 2020 they spent a portion of the donations they got raising more donations from Dems and pocketed millions. They are worse than leaches and they need to be stopped or countered.
