We lose VA in 2022 and 2024.
They will steal every election.

(8,196 posts)Sure, I'd like to have Tru...er...Youngkin soundly defeated, but it may not happen. But use this energy to GOTV more next year for the mids and then again in 24 for all the marbles.
Meantime, I'll have another drink...join me?

(5,992 posts)Hoping to add to our Senate majority and holding onto the house seem pretty tough right now. People have short attention spans, and have already forgotten about Trump and the insurrection.
The media will ride this GOP win for months, touting it as the bellweather, pretty much creating a self-fulfilling prophecy.

(38 posts)But with those number looks we will lose both the House and Senate next year.

(10,599 posts)But you're right, we're going to lose both next year.

(5,928 posts)but we need to learn some lessons.
We just got thumped because we were looking backwards while they slammed us on social issues.
We need to focus on workers and wages

(68,951 posts)I think they openly and clearly RACE BAITED it.
I also think McCauliffe was a lackluster candidate with a weak message as it relates to the Democratic base.
This s not election night blues. I have been saying that privately since he became the candidate.
I have a very close friend who is a small town (Democratic) mayor in Virginia and is well plugged in to the state party. She said the same thing to me.
This should be a surprise to no one.

(9,238 posts)Never really a big McAuliffe fan. I wish we would have found someone younger and more charismatic. However there were headwinds against Terry with so much negative press regarding Democrats.. especially Afghanistan and failing to push any key legislation through. Not fair but that's politics.

(2,508 posts)First, we are supposed to be crushed. But then quickly pivot and blame a crooked election, right? Then we move on to storming public buildings and having public freak outs.
Or I suppose we could just recoup, figure out where we went wrong, and fight twice as hard for 2022.

(4,677 posts)McAuliffe stumbled badly with his remark that parents shouldn't control what schools teach their kids. That's the kind of remark that *really* energizes a particular sector of electorate. Combined with a GOP propaganda machine that was already in full "critical race theory" panic, and a national Dem party whose approval ratings are in freefall thanks to Joe Manchin and Krysten Sinema, and you get more votes for Youngkin.

(93,532 posts)... WELL funded Youngkin and a dem messaging that was be scared of Trump vs finding our own CRT issue.
We need our CRT issue but factual, stoking works !!!

(37,341 posts)But pass legislation to steal them from here on.

(4,677 posts)Their game plan is already in the open: they intend to refuse to certify any election result where Dems have won.

No, it's not.
Dust off, and get back out there and work twice as hard next time.
But yeah, 22 was always going to be a tough year and it's probably not going to be one that makes us feel very good.

(14,038 posts)I'm going to listen to some music, read some books and stop paying attention to the oncoming demise of the nation. Next year it will be legal to grow pot in my state, so fewer tomato plants and a try at a new crop. I'm feeling better already.
