After living there for 17 years, I had realized that VA is a microcosm of America vs Dumbfuckistan

https://www.washingtonpost.com/elections/election-results/virginia/?itid=hp-top-table-main#governor

According to these election results, all the urban, modern areas of the state, all the major cities, NOVA and Hampton Roads are secure Democratic strongholds and went for McAuliffe. This areas are multiculturally diverse, well educated, centers of employment, with a vast number of Federal employees and military personnel and their families. If anything, these places are typically American, as is America that represents what you and I know as America.

These are the areas that make VA a purple state that elects Democrats, especially with the power of superior demographics.

The more rural part of VA is straight up Talebornagain Dumbfuckistan, and all of it went for Youngkin. Mostly white and as backwards as all get out, triggered by heavy doses of RWNJ propaganda, fear-mongering, white grievance and Trump cultishness. These people do not care that Youngkin is unfit to hold public office. Actually it's a selling point to these people. Especially in some of the economically depressed areas of the Appalachia in the far west , who don't have a favorable opinion of government at all, despite the fact that it's the government that they heavily lean upon for support. Although these areas make up the majority of the state's landmass, Democratic votes could be found there... If they bother to get out the vote and not leave it to the population centers to do all the the heavy lifting. I wondering how much the Dems tried to appeal to these voters. It's cleared that that voters in the mostly white areas been poisoned and radicalized over the last year or so.

But this election should not have been lost.

This is a harbinger of what we're looking at in the upcoming elections. We have to fight back and we need to take that fight straight into the heartland of Central Dumfuckistan. If we can't do this, America is thoroughly hosed.

My state, Washington, has some of the most Progressive and educated people on the planet, all living near Seattle and Puget Sound. Drive an hour outside of the urban area and you might as well be in the Deep South.

About the only exception is found in the Northeastern USA.

Coincidentally, the NE USA also has the lowest percentages of white evangelical Christians.

Edit: Here's an evangelical article about the "godlessness" in New England, particularly Vermont, and how they're actively planting evangelical churches there trying to change it.

So maybe even Vermont will be full of rural Christo-Taliban as more time passes?

Trump didn't do much actual work to make their lives any better but at least Trump talks about them and make them feel special. We, on the other hand, simply take them as racist and no reason to ever reach out to them. I think they are racist but if there are things they will vote for us for, like the economy, infrastructure that will impact their daily lives. Our attitude of ignoring them is a problem to say the least.

They aren’t voting Democratic no matter how hard we try to reach them and that’s the problem…they would vote against their own self-interest because they hate Democrats… I think we waste too much time courting them instead of trying to turn out voters who would vote for us if we could get them to the polls…that’s where our talking points need to go at

The city's pretty much rejected the Confederacy.

If anything, Confederate VA is pretty much any place in the state without a major population center, a major University, military bases, Federal government facilities or a multi-chromatic population.
