Its kind of heartbreaking to see all those people who might not be on the same side but arent barking, foaming, hate mongering grifters who want to bleed us, not lead us (heythere might be a good Dem message there). We know all the problems. Theyre serious and GWB has done horrific things. But they can sit in a room and represent actual non-insane parts of America. We know whos not there, who peeks out from under his rock to spit venom and avoid the company of those he cant control with it.
I want it addressed. I want those people, every one of them, to help remind us that we are on a crazy path and that Powell, for better or worse, was part of a coalition that they refuse to be mere remnants of.
Just musing.

question everything
(47,535 posts)Certainly GWB is not.
As an aside, there have been many posts here denigrating Powell. I was reminded recently that many Republicans wanted him to run for president in 1996. He did not want to but I would like to think that considering his run may have helped paved the road for another Black man to run - Obama. (Also "President David Palmer" played by the wonderful Dennis Haysbert on "24".. )

(9,116 posts)...this website exists because of GWB and his administration, Powell included.
Whatever else he may have done, Powell was instrumental in cheerleading a disastrous foreign policy that cost untold lives, destabilized politics on a global scale, and was at best a silent partner in human rights abuses. The consequences of his actions (an inactions) remain in full-effect to this day, and will likely continue for generations.
This isn't self-righteous, egotistical back-slapping from keyboard warriors jacking themselves off in front of their peers. Powell fucked up, big time. And by no means should he be allowed to live it down, not because we have a vested interest in dragging his name through the mud, but because the world cannot afford to let this happen again. It must be remembered.
