A good quick read to get our minds off the polls going into tonight's final Debate. Democracy is not a spectator sport.
A couple of notes: Nicco Mele argues towards the end of the article that social media such as twitter, facebook is used mainly as a tool in preaching to the choir. I couldn't disagree more in that many have friends on their twitter accounts (facebook too) who are low information voters when it comes to the political season. I believe twitter especially can be used to link information quickly to those we would like to inform, get beyond the chatter, direct them to what is useful information from the 'noise'. We need to use our advantage in these digital tools to it's fullest in the next 2 weeks. Article below ...
The social media election disparity has been a subject of scrutiny in this tight race, and Nicco Mele, a professor at Harvard Universitys John F. Kennedy School of Government, spoke to Bloomberg about the strong lead Obama has in the realm of social media overall.
Mele points to the force of sheer numbers backing Obama on social media sites in general as a for instance, Obama has clocked 31,134,018 likes on Facebook, miles ahead of Romneys 10,331,303 likes on the social network. Mele explains:
Obama is operating at a different order of magnitude than Romney just in terms of raw numbers Were effectively in the dark ages of this. The eco- system is just so different and so new. Its really hard to figure out what is actually going to matter.
