The country hasn't seen that level since delta. It looks like Florida and Louisiana are there. CT has moderate spread in the majority of counties and local towns are lifting their indoor mask mandates. Mine did a week ago. Several other states are getting close.

The virus is prevelant at levels higher than we had last summer.

(1,783 posts)Those morons are guaranteeing this will just go on and on until we eventually get an escape variant. Then we'll be right back where we were in March.

(51,591 posts)and I predict we will based on the cycles in this country.
Central Europe is seeing record high numbers now. WHO is warning not to ease on restrictions and pushes more vaccines as another bad wave is hitting many countries as Winter nears. Many do not have enough doses for citizens to even get a first shot. They are also predicting another 500,000 dead as Delta spreads over the next few months.

(20,851 posts)And it is wise to get a booster sometime this month so I will. Wave after wave suggests to me that prior infection does not give lasting immunity to many and a lot of unvaccinated people are going to get hit yet again in the winter of 2022. Meanwhile the vaccinated will likely fair much better. Because that's simply how the last wave went.

(34,070 posts)for the last two days for which we have full reporting.
And the positivity rate in tests (mandated randomly where I work) has increased the last 2 weeks.
I think we're about done with the downward trend, and are heading back up.

Hopefully FDA hurries up and approves the new anti-viral meds.

(34,070 posts)That does seem to be the case.
I don't think that is the formal definition of endemic, though.

(44,973 posts)It's not exactly over.

(7,611 posts)It's just disappearing in the south. All those states are going to be moderate spread maybe in a couple of weeks.
Ms. Toad
(34,070 posts)or are they just not reporting.
And if they are actually disappearing, then other places are picking up - since the average case rate is static to increasing.

(7,611 posts)The south is real though. Apparently there is something to natural immunity.

(7,510 posts)That's low enough that people in most age groups without other risk factors will not be particularly concerned.

(7,611 posts)All the mavens are saying the vax is really meant to stop serious illness and death not so much infections. Though the way it worked out nearly everyone is eligible for a booster.

(1,969 posts)Oh course that is how viruses work. They use up the available fuel and burn out.
There is something to be said for weather related as well. Florida's winter is during the summer months where everyone stays indoors. Now the weather is nice everyone is outside again. Opposite up north.

(32,639 posts)... restaurants are closing their outdoor decks, etc. The outdoor concerts are ending. We'll see more people returning to indoor activities and family get-togethers. That's when infections heated up last year and I believe it's already happening again this year.
One thing that might make a difference is the fact that we're vaccinating the school-age kids now! Let's hope that the school vaccinations and the employer mandated deadlines are making a difference in the infection rates.
We can't have another winter like last year. It was way too deadly.

(7,611 posts)He's a good writer and he's on the board of Pfizer and describes how Pfizer created their vax. He describes the head of the lab calling into a meeting of the board to give them the first results of the trials of the vaccine. It's quite a moment.

(1,495 posts)early spring. Oddly, we don't have a indoor mask mandate in New York, except in government buildings and public transportation.
My husband felt sick on Saturday, with cold symptoms, so I sent him for a PCR Covid test at Walgreens yesterday. I'm waiting on the results. He thinks it's just a cold, so hopefully he's right. He's fully vaccinated, of course, but I think he is lax about wearing a mask when he's not with me. Also, many of his coworkers are not vaccinated and don't wear masks.
People need to be careful. I think it's going to be a rough winter.
