Kansas' Democratic governor said it was 'too late' for Biden to issue a vaccine mandate, siding with Republicans against it

Business Insider via Yahoo

Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly, a Democrat, joined Republicans on Friday in opposing President Joe Biden's vaccine mandate for businesses.

Kelly issued a statement applauding Biden's intentions but signaling Kansas will go in a different direction.

"While I appreciate the intention to keep people safe, a goal I share, I don't believe this directive is the correct, or most effective, solution for Kansas," Kelly said in a Friday statement on Twitter.

"States have been leading the fight against COVID-19 from the start of the pandemic. It is too late to impost a federal standard now that we have already developed systems and strategies that are tailored for our specific needs," Kelly continued.

"I will seek a resolution that continues to recognize the uniqueness of our state and builds on our on-going efforts to combat a once-in-a-century crisis," she wrote.

7. Bur she's not

Anything she does is automatically overruled by the state assembly. She's better off with thus approach and sneaking in small things.

If you were here you'd know exactly how hard the GOP has made anything she's tried to do a nightmare.

This should not have anything to do with politics

10. But it does

That's how it's played out in Kansas and in Missouri, where I live. I'm just outside of the KC metro and my news is the KC market. The attacks against Laura Kelly (and sometimes against Sharice Davids) are non stop. They've made what should be a safety issue into something political. It's not her fault.

She is doing her best with what she has.

she has to play to the politics of her state.

15. She did.

I have known her for years and her husband was my doctor for years. I know how she feels, I did door to door work when she ran for her first city office. Her more moderate stances were never for me but the woman's brain and her ability to work through the hard stuff impresses me daily.

A covidiot she is not but there are an awful lot of idiots both here with their knee jerk reactions and through out my state with their religious, RW idiocy.

They took all her power away and then took the public health docs power away. There are not enough elected Dems here to do anything.

She has done a yeomans work every, single day. We would all like her to side with public health but the last time she did that it took months for it to get untangled enough for us to get any kind of policy at all.

27. She does and she has.

Is this perfect, hell no, not even close. Our state is governed almost entirely by R's who know if they want that job for life it is there for them. She has done all she can and if she has to accomplish things this way it has to be.

As I said before, she is way too moderate for me but I would 1000 times rather have her keep this job by working around them than lose her to another Brownback.

It sucks but believe me when I say, we all know where she stands but the state cannot be brought back to total standstill over and over and over. She is sacrificing much of her own belief to keep it going. She is in no way close to kissing their ass. THAT is very offensive from someone who does not live here or have to deal with what we have and are likely to have the rest of my life as a government. She has kept us from the worst of their stupid ideas.

OK I am done with this thread. Y'all keep pounding away. If I were her I would figure out a way to undercut you but I am not. I am not that smart and respect your opinion. I just wish you had actual information to make it actually something that can be discussed. At this point it is just a bunch of offensive insults but you are certainly allowed to keep it up.

She won by just 4 points in a bad year for the GOP plus the horrible GOP fiscal mess against a Ted Nugent clone.

6. Stop.

She is not a coward.

In March of 2020 she dismissed all public schools for the balance of the school year. She was the first, perhaps only Governor, who made this courageous decision. She saved lives. The men (Republicans) who control the legislature passed all sorts of new legislation to control her after that.

She is anything but a coward.

Or what laws they pass handcuffing her. But she can still fight for whatís right, even if itís just her voice. But my patience has run out with anybody siding with Covidiots- even if theyíre Dís

22. Pfizer vaccine was approved back on August 23, 2021

The legal question is whether an Emergency Temporary Standard issued so long after FDA approval that is not to take effect until January 4 can be legitimately issued under the statute authorizing ETSs, or whether the OSHA standard needs to be issued following normal OSHA standards setting procedures.

It's pretty clear that the standard would be legitimate under normal procedures.

It also seems strange that if it is an emergency, it only applies to employers with greater than 100 employees?
