The owner of a personalized sign business went viral for shutting down a woman asking her to make an anti-vaccination sign."Can u make a custom sign?? I want one with a certain saying but can't find it. I can do local pick up," the initial message from Samantha reads.
A second message states what kind of sign the customer is looking for: "I want a round door sign that says 'Welcome unvacinated and unafraid' but like pretty ya know?? Its for my front door and i need it by thanksgiving. How much $$??."
"Samantha, assuming you are referring to the COVID vaccine, I cannot in good conscience make a sign promoting anti-vaccination," @thesleepyowlhome wrote back. "COVID vaccines have been thoroughly tested and proven effective and are entirely safe so there's nothing to even be afraid of. Thanks!"
"Um i didn't ask for your opinion i just want you to do your job like im paying you for. or you just cant do customs like you said and are just lieing to our customers or what?? Seriously I just want the sign and im the one paying you and im a lion not a sheep!!" Samantha said.
At the end of the video, @thesleepyowlhome drew up the requested sign, but facetiously points out the spelling and grammatical mistakes. She also adds an extra line so it reads: "Welcome we are unvaccinated and unafraid * and uneducated."

(3,192 posts)Hitler would never have allowed his aryan maidens to display their, um, bootay in such a marginally alluring way. He preferred his porn in the shape of photos and films of well muscled blond haired men with empty expressions on their chiseled faces -- and probably a lower degree of STD than the machine gun babes here pictured.
(The top photo, however, looks very photo-shopped -- lettering doesnt match the curves of the shirt. The bottom photo looks real but it brings to mind the old school-boy jocular" locker-room line about putting a flag over her face and you-know-what-ing her for Old Glory. Although I will admit that, despite her smirking idiot smile, shes actually somewhat attractive -- just doesnt dress well and, certainly, disrespects the flag.)

(69,364 posts)It's unconstitutional to turn away a customer just because they're Black, or Jewish, or gay. It's not unconstitutional to tell any customer that you won't make a specific request.
There's an important distinction.

an opinion, on the one hand, and an immutable characteristic of personhood on the other hand.
Do people disagree about being black, white, Asian, etc.? No, they ARE those things.
I gather you believe that being gay is a choice of some kind. Is that correct?
RVN VET71
(3,192 posts)Lets not cross the line in assuming things not at all in evidence. When you assume you make . . . well, you know. Besides, everybody knows that if being gay were a choice, wed all of us be gay, or at least bi.
With the rest of your points I agree thoroughly. (Although Ive never seen the profit in trying to force a baker to make something for me that she doesnt want to make and that Im going to eat.)

(1,939 posts)If being gay is a choice then being a bigot must be a choice because I'm pretty sure we all are not born bigots or racists or, etc.
Those seem to be personally and intentionally acquired attributes.

(20,868 posts)relates to whether the signwriter has the right to refuse a customer, in the same way those rwnj bakers tried to do.
Effete Snob
(8,387 posts)That's what you are not quite understanding.
Being gay is not an "opinion".

(8,387 posts)Any business can refuse service to any customer for any reason - PROVIDED it is not an unlawful reason.
So, yes, you can refuse service to someone because you believe they are an asshole. You cannot refuse service to someone who is African American, because the law prohibits discrimination on the basis of race.
Religion (with the exception of religious organizations), national origin, race, color, or sex, are what are deemed "protected categories" in federal law.
Sexual orientation is a protected category under the law of many states.
Understanding this is only difficult for people who believe being gay is a choice. That is why various people think it is the "same" for a business owner to discriminate on the basis of political opinion and sexual orientation. It is simply not the equivalent situation.
Oh, and "the libs"?

(69,364 posts)There's a whole subculture of women trying to find a man by parroting white supremacist tropes, posing in skimpy clothes with guns, posing in mid-20th century clothes with Nazi symbols, etc etc.
It's just a new way to find men for some of these women. I have no idea why they're so desperate. It says something terrible about our culture.

(15,463 posts)pretty much the same as putting the hottie draped over the seat of a motorcycle (or hood of a car). The idea that these calendar pin-ups represent real women out there 'desperate for a date' ... Fantasy.
Yeah - it probably does say something kind of disappointing about us - in general. But not what you suggest. (IMO) There's plenty of neck-beards to go around.

Any woman with 1/2 a brain know that many of these thugs are notorious for beating up their women, it is part of their lack of confidence.

(24,210 posts)They think Libs are hiding in their basements or something. No one is living in fear, people are going about their lives. Most people are vaccinated and thus safer for it. Getting vaccinated is not living in fear, it's being considerate of others. Wearing a mask isn't living in fear, it's looking out for your fellow American.
The country is back to normal, has been for months and months. Mask mandates in schools have zero bearing on normalcy. It's a tiny piece of fabric, it's bothering almost no one, and it's far from living in fear.

Perhaps @thesleepyowlhome should look at producing the sign as a business opportunity AND as a alert to the public that assholes are inside.

This is in the same category as store owners who post signs like, "Sorry we're closed! None of our employees are willing to work."
WTF?
