Mitch McConnells Dreams Of Winning The Senate Are Dying
All across the country top potential Republican candidates are refusing to run for Senate and killing Mitch McConnells chances of becoming Majority Leader.
Mitch McConnell Fails To Recruit Top New Hampshire Senate Candidate
NBC News noted while reporting on Gov. Sununus decision not to run for Senate in New Hampshire:
Brian Walsh, a former Senate GOP campaign operative, said he sees echoes of 2010 in the pro-Republican political environment and the potential for subpar candidates to cost Republicans the majority.
Republican Candidates In Multiple States Accused Of Domestic Violence And Sexual Assault
In Georgia, Republican Senate Candidate Herschel Walker is accused of threatening the life of his ex-wife. In Pennsylvania, another Trump hand-picked Senate candidate, Sean Parnell, is accused of choking his then-wife and physically abusing his children. In Missouri, the states former Republican governor is running for Senate even though he was accused of sexual assault by a woman that he was having an affair with.
These are not top-tier candidates. The three are not even good candidates. They are liabilities to McConnells hopes of taking back the Senate majority.
Mitch McConnell Dream Of Being Majority Leader Again Is Dying
If Democrats swing one of the open Republican seats, where Pennsylvania currently looks like their strongest chance, McConnells dreams of returning to the majority will be dead.
All of the terrible candidates in the GOP field have one thing in common besides sexual assault and domestic violence. Trump chose them. The failed former president cost McConnell the Senate majority in 2020, and he may cost Republicans the Senate again in 2022.

(12,855 posts)People read these type of articles and come away thinking they don't have to vote we will win big. Thought that in 2016 and look what it got us! GOTV, if they say we are going to win 65 seats, GOTV!

Moscow Mitch is on another planet, as the American people want what's in the BBB by 70%, 80%, and even 90%.
He's scared shitless the BBB gets enacted.

(34,857 posts)The crazies the GOP inevitably nominate will likely stand a good chance of winning solely never it'll be a midterm, possibly a bad year for Democrats, and state demographics that favor the Republican.
Look at Ohio and Pennsylvania. If Pennsylvania nominates Sean Parnell, sure the Democrat probably has a better chance of winning but would they even be the favorite?
Ohio with that Josh Mandell is even worse as I'm pretty sure he is the favorite.
In that scenario, you'll see two bad senators (Rob Portman and Pat Toomey) replaced by far worse, more awful reactionary senators who would bring MTG craziness to the Chamber.

(12,809 posts)I think Tim Ryan, assuming he is the nominee, can run a strong campaign for Ohio.
I feel like Iowa should be in play but every election cycle Iowa disappoints me.

(34,857 posts)I think we can win those states but I wouldn't say should. We lost Ohio at the presidential level and barely won two of those others. Even with Trump fanatic candidates, it's going to be tough.

(24,956 posts)The state continues to trend away from Democrats
Florida I am also skeptical of; last time Rubio ran we all heard how much trouble he was in -- he won by about 750k votes.

(6,674 posts)Every night when I watch the local news I see the attack ads against JD Vance. Before he began his race to the bottom he had some coherent thoughts about what a scum bucket Donald Trump was. Now those words are being used against him because that will sell here. Representative Ryan (assuming he's the nominee) will have my support and vote, but it will be an uphill battle.

(7,367 posts)Add to that, you may get the rabid base, but you won't get the rank a file and sure as hell will lose the independents. And often the GOP only gives you one shot to win. Might be better to keep the job you have rather than risk a new one you aren't sure you can get.

Seems like nothing is a problem because theyve rigged the system.

(64,628 posts)Seriously, though, repubs are defending 24 seats IIRC, with several 'retirements.' Lot of work to be done, but Dems have a good chance to strengthen our majority this cycle. Senate seats can't be gerrymandered. It would be nice if the whole MAGA movement suffers some setbacks.
My state is safely blue, but lot states out there teetering. We need to snatch up some of those seats.
