My company just announced they are offering up to a $1000 bonus to all vaccinated employees.

My company just announced they are offering up to a $1000 bonus to all vaccinated employees. The catch is that the bonus will be paid in January if at least 90% of the company is vaccinated against COVID as of December 31. If between 80% and 90% of the company is vaccinated, the bonus is $600 for each vaccinated employee. If the percentage vaccinated is less than 80%, no one gets anything.

I imagine peer pressure is going to be a powerful thing.

They give a break on premiums if you hit the 90%, and the employer passes on the savings.

That way, the employer can point to the insurance company. The optics are much better.

You can't charge a different premium based on health status.

That's a key part of the ACA law.

My company just renegotiated, so this is a fact. I don't know how that squares with the ACA.

31. Companies can provide wellness incentives though
Wed Nov 10, 2021, 07:46 PM
Nov 2021

When a wellness program is tied to a companies insurance plan, the company may provide a wellness incentive of up to 30% of the health plan's total cost. Health-contingent wellness programs have more regulations in place than ones that only require you to participate to achieve the incentive. One of the requirements is that there must be a reasonable alternative if someone does not meet a health standard; for example, an alternative standard for having high cholesterol may be to attend a one hour health coaching session that gives advice on how to lower cholesterol.

As for my company's bonus, it isn't tied to any one person's health; it's tied to the overall vaccination percentage of the entire company. As long as they have a reasonable standard for claiming religious or health exceptions, it is probably arm's length enough to avoid running afoul of any regulations.

The company I work for gave a $200 bonus to vaccinated employees. All we had to do was show our vaccine card to the HR. No catch. I like my company but you can't beat a $1000 bonus.

I'd imagine this would motivate unvaccinated people to behave as if they were vaccinated and not wear masks or take any precautions so they could avoid peer pressure from people telling them to go get vaccinated.

Mine just started offering $100 to those who get it done NOW.
I mean, I didn't intend to get paid-- did it for the safety-- but that made me grumble-- they've been endangering coworkers and clients for months now, and they get rewarded for waiting.

But, oh, well. Your company sounds smart and fair.

My company gave us until Oct. 15 to disclose vax status. After that, you're either vaxxed or subject to weekly testing if on site. if you don't like it, they're are other opportunities for you elsewhere.
