Largest psilocybin trial finds the psychedelic is effective in treating serious depression

Eagerly awaited results of the largest-ever study of psilocybin were announced Tuesday, with Compass Pathways revealing the psychedelic drug was highly efficacious as a therapy for treatment-resistant depression. Still, the company’s stock price dropped 16.4% by the close of trading, perhaps because of safety concerns among investors.

The Phase 2b study is the largest randomized, controlled, double-blind trial of psilocybin, the psychedelic compound in magic mushrooms. The company said it found that patients who were given the highest dose, 25 milligrams, had a significant decrease in depressive symptoms compared to those given 1 milligram, which is such a low dose it functions as a placebo.

Overall, 29.1% of patients in the highest-dose group were in remission three weeks after treatment, compared to 7.6% of those in the control group, and more than a quarter of the patients in the 25-milligram arm were still in remission three months after treatment.

Those who received the highest dose also experienced an average reduction on a measure of clinical depression (the Montgomery-Asberg Depression Rating Scale) that was 6.6 points greater than those who took 1 milligram. Other patients were given a 10-milligram dose, but there was not a statistically significant impact for those patients compared with the 1-milligram arm.

“Everyone agrees such a result hasn’t been seen before in depression research, so we’re incredibly happy with that result,” said Lars Christian Wilde, co-founder and president of Compass.

As did LSD the few times I took a trip. Oh boy, the greatest reality wake-up call I ever had.

Always been afraid of anything that puts you in an alternate reality. However, I understand that this is a bit different than being strung out on meth or something similar. Like the trips are short and they offer more of a mind opening experience than a keep coming back addiction experience.

If under supervision, sober supervision, I would probably try them under legal circumstances just to see what Joe Rogan and others are always talking about.

67 - Colt 45 - was a mind fuck. Mainly because of the puking.
69- Pot - Nice buzz. Probably made me susceptible to cigs. Oh well.
70 - Cigs.
72 - Coke - Sure...made my nose and mouth numb. Never bought, but I did snort a line or 3.
73 - LSD - Direct from Owsley. What experiences. As a Jesuit educated male from the mid-60's thru the 70's. LSD was the best sacrament ever. A few dozen trips later, I graduated.
74 - Shrooms - LSD, light.
75-Present Alcohol, Good Bud......in moderation.

…Once one doesn’t get the munchies anymore and no longer worries about hitting that curl up into a ball of paranoia note, you can basically walk around high all the time and nobody will know. You’re just the easy going person.

one was doing magic mushrooms and the other was when Sister Mary Ruth took me in the cloakroom in sixth grade.

Seriously, every time I did the shrooms I had a several week period of an enhanced appreciation of life. And aspects have carried over to this day.

with the availability of a "pharmaceutical" that can be easily and cheaply grown by Mother Nature. How will they be able to mark the cost up 1,000%?

Maybe the govt will allow a chemical "cousin" (we will call it "psilo-cyanide-poisonate666&quot .

It only gives really really bad trips, and may cause anal bleeding, tongue warts, bloating, and pink eye...but at least nobody will have fun.

It's not even a great side investment. The more people smoke pot, the less dependent they become on manufactured pharmaceuticals.

Organic speed puts you into a good mood and doesn't kick back later like pills did.
