explicit.

"Boobie is a teenage pyromaniac who has killed his parents and kidnapped his baby brother with the intention of selling him to the highest bidder. Custis is an orphan who for most of his life has been the sexual slave of middle-aged pedophile. Curl is a teenaged prostitute who has a dangerous crush on Boobie."

From some reviews online I see this is described as an exceptionally hard book to read.

When my daughter was younger we talked about books that were good reads and those that weren't. TBH, some of the YA literature was pretty traumatic and angst-y just for the sake of it. She tended away from those books when she was a younger teen. As she aged, and through HS, I wasn't involved much - except to talk about them in general terms.

She was a big Tolkien fan at one point.
