NEW YORK CITY (WABC) -- New York City Mayor-elect Eric Adams met with Black Lives Matter Greater New York Wednesday, a conversation that ended in heated fashion with organizers threatening protests and violence if Adams brings back the controversial plainclothes NYPD anti-crime unit.
Adams plans on doing just that, promising he would resurrect the undercover police unit that was deeply involved with stop and frisk.
"If they think they are going to go back to the old ways of policing, then we are going to take to the streets again," Black Lives Matter's Hawke Newsome said. "There will be riots. There will be fire. And there will be bloodshed."

(21,129 posts)This internal relations advocacy group speaks out against police brutality, racial profiling and police misconduct. They are composed of active duty and retired employees from within the department. They also support the black community with financial, educational and legal support.
Based in New York City and founded by two black police officers, Eric Adams and Noel Leader, in 1995, this organization was created to address relations between the NYPD and the ]African American community. The NYPD administration has yet to acknowledge or authorize this group yet as of 2018 it remains active.
In 2013, Adams stepped down as executive director to become the first African American borough president of Brooklyn.

(13,850 posts)The people he met have no standing with the National BLM group. Theyre local organizers and arguably not as influential as other BLM leaders.
Having said that, this benefits Adams politically. Im not saying I agree with him. Numbers show that the police group he wants to bring back arent beneficial. But this will garner the support of the cops, middle class diverse base in nyc who sees crime encroaching on their neighborhoods and everybody but the most progressive groups.
ETA: hawk Newsome is a Fox News favorite crank. Hes auing global BLM. Hes anti vaccine mandate. Adams couldnt have picked a better guy to meet and fight.
