People may not realize but it's pretty common. I remember one time a judge wasn't doing what I wanted so I suggested he put the case down on a day he wouldn't be there. I think he's still screaming at me.

(1,896 posts)All I asked was, How many days?
His finished his rant by saying if he ever had in in his courtroom again he was throwing the book at me.
The whole story is that I was ticketed for walking on shoulder of highway not facing traffic. A bullshit ticket for which he banged the gavel and said, Ten dollar fine. That's when I asked how many days.
He again said ten dollars.
My retort was that I would rather go to jail than pay a fine for a ticket like this.
I guess he didn't like my reasoning any more than he liked the question.

(16,844 posts)their actions more than we do now. They have a lot of latitude to do as they please in their courts and there's very little that can be done about it, except in cases where judges are elected.
But what can we do? They can be impeached, but that's hard to do. In some cases they can be voted out, but those are usually lower level judges (although in my state, Supreme Court judges are elected). Maybe we could have panels of elected members oversee the appointed judges.
I don't think that would work for federal judges, though. It would probably be unconstitutional. Wish there was a solution, because they really go too far sometimes, too often for my taste.

(1,737 posts)I think the problem is a judge who yells only at one side. One side cannot do right for him it seems, while the other side can't do wrong.
