in Trump's lifetime? I've lost track of bankruptcies. I know David Cay Johnston has tracked the family, but I don't know if he has tracked the number of lawsuits that have gone all the way through the courts, how many rulings have been appealed or how many were discontinued when those suing Trump gave up.
These numbers should be publicized and there should be a limit on bankruptcies. If they find that the Trump organization cheated on their numbers and he was able to recover because of bankruptcies, some heads should roll. Bankruptcies make money for Trump.
Just think of all the contractors and suppliers who had to eat their losses. Surely, there are limits.

I was going to write a post about it but never got around to it.

They're very chilling and quite similar undertakings. Thanks!

(16,254 posts)I've always wondered why the IRS and/or Congress doesn't concentrate their efforts on closing those loopholes that allow these pricks to become so rich and maintain their wealth building. I suppose a lot of those loopholes were passed to please these people and got lost in the thousands favorable rulings before/after them. Lobbyists are probably the legs that get the work done and write the legislation. We piddily people can't or don't do much to fight back.
Years ago, I read the tax rules for claiming profit/loss on show horses. Good grief! They had everything covered to make a generous profit in that venture. All I got out of it was a headache.
I will print this article for further perusal. Mitt is smooth as glass, but how much has he lost in the process of building his kingdom?

(4,787 posts)They identified 3,500 cases, 1,900 where he was plaintiff, 1,450 where he was the defendant, and 150 which were legal matters rather than lawsuits, such bankruptcy filings.
The article has an exhibit where they break out the various actions by source/subject. (If you use your browser's find-in-page function, usually ctrl-F, search for: Trump lawsuits by the numbers )
1,700 of the cases related to the casinos, while 700 were personal injury suits aka slip-n-falls on his various properties. (There are more details in the article.) There's also some information on what happened to the cases, although that's not complete.
After one of his attorneys told them that his number of suits was lower than most comparable organizations, they checked on the legal activities of 5 other major real estate developers. He had more suits where he was either the plaintiff or defendant than the other 5 developers combined.

(16,254 posts)It appears Trump's organization spends more time talking about lawsuits than actual work. Wouldn't it be better to work out your problems or at least try running your business in a legal way rather than spend so much time/money in courts? It would be interesting to see how much his court costs have been over the years and how many people he has on staff to do the actual work to sooth his ego and cut down on the temper tantrums.
Just imagine how many lawsuits have been filed since 2016. Good grief. It sounds like he has around 10 or more ongoing right now. I should think the court system would yell "Uncle!" and make it doubly difficult for him to file or appeal new cases. The courts are here to protect and help the average person in need, but not to allow abuse of the system like he has done over the many years he has been exploiting and cheating. What if the rest of us did the same thing? I would imagine his father taught him well and probably played the courts as well.
