Doctors warn of highly-contagious virus that could become a global threat to children

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are warning that measles is once again a global threat, partly due to the pandemic.

Measles is one of the most contagious known viruses. The CDC said 22 million babies around the world missed their measles vaccines because of the pandemic.

Measles was declared eliminated in the U.S. in 2000, thanks in large part to vaccines.

But international travelers can bring it into the country and then it can spread among the unvaccinated.

I wonder why the article doesn't lead with that.

We have enough problems trying to find lillipads and resettlement homes for refuges. We don't need false or misleading charges being thrown around.

Did you know almost all afghan refugees are being housed on military bases prior to release into the US for resettlement, where they are screened by health officials very carefully? Before arriving, most are interned prior to being allowed transit to the us; again, allowing health screenings.

So I'd like to see what you are basing that claim on, please.

Now We are aggressively getting them vaccinated. But measles outbreaks are almost exclusive to refugees from such countries or isolated religious extremists living in the US such as orthodox jews.

Your own post also highlights Orthodox Jewish outbreaks. There are multiple.

One outbreak doesn't mean "most" of the problem are coming from one refugee community.

Please think before you post. This can have a devstating impact on settlement efforts and you need to be very careful with facts and statements.

Fwiw, they have been performing health screening for months. One group got through, possibly because it didn't go through the formal process.

Will be used by the xenophobic right to further clamp down on immigration from refugee countries.

Right now in Afghanistan, it is very difficult to get out. Even with a valid US visa in a passport, people aren't moving. The taliban is actively hunting many of these people down and killing them. They are even using false flag relief agencies to collect info on where people are and then arrest them. Add to that, some third country (Russia?), is passing facebook messenger texts to them of people trying to find a way out.

People are dying because they can't get out.

They can't get out because countries are refugee weary after floods of refugees from syria and other conflict areas. And those are countries that are only being asked to act as lillipads - temporary housing until they can go to a final destination.

It is being exacerbated by the fact that the state department is gutted and doesn't have the resources to help.

It is ironic when ex-blackwater resources (like a Marine, is anyone ever ex-blackwater?) are more useful than the state department.

So please, don't post statements out of context that WILL be used by xenophobes.

I'm not saying that some communities may not be vax'ed for illnesses. Those are certainly out there. But that can be managed and there is no reason to demonize groups without cause.

any parent's adherence to routine vaccination regime should be reasonably inoculated.

'those who are not, have yet another virus to be deeply concerned about.

I feel like we are being treated to never ending scare tactics in the msm.

the next potential pandemic disease to escape. Me too. When I saw this headline, my heart did give a little quiver.

If it happens while people around the planet are still deliberately spreading disease, flouting attempts to control with religious-level fervor, and many nations are still disordered from this pandemic, it could be extremely bad. A bunch of the pathogens we know about are significantly more lethal than SARS2, including to children.
