In a nutshell: it sucks and is poorly written.

The judge can dismiss any charge where there's no evidence a law was broken. In this case, because of how the law is written, Rittenhouse didn't break it, and the prosecution doesn't really have any good argument about it.

This is not the prosecution's fault.

I am pretty sure the kid is lying about how the gun was handled, by who, etc, but the evidence is lacking. There's no one to testify otherwise.

Thread about the Wisconsin law. A relatively straight forward law about under aged gun possession was amended in such a way that it made it complicated for even lawyers to figure out what it was forbidding. It wasn't obvious that Rittenhouse was breaking the law by possessing the rifle.

But it's a horribly written law. The legislature didn't pay attention to what they were writing.

They argued about this law at length on Friday. It is really poorly written. There are gaps in it.

The legislature has to fix this.

But the, "He was illegally carrying a weapon" argument just sailed out the door, never to return.

He was legally able to be there with the firearm.

This self defense garbage is just that garbage . If you go to a rally and are against that rally and walk around with a weapon you are looking for a fight. Period

Kyle Rittenhouse is an incompetent fool and they judge is just like him. I doubt either of them have ever been truly responsible for anything they have done.

When the rifle is legal length. That is why this charge has been dropped. The prosecution never thought to take a simple measurement.

I came in late this morning and saw they were arguing about barrel length.

I saw Friday when they were arguing about the law says, then this morning this barrel thing.

If that's what it all came down to . . . lord.

Another highly questionable effort by the prosecution as they had to know the length of the barrel before submitting the charge yet did so anyway.

Was the length of the barrel made much of during evidence? If not somebody must have hit the law books on Saturday and Sunday. Sounds like the prosecutors were taken by surprise.

The law doesn't apply to a 17 year old who possesses a rife that does not meet the definition of a short-barreled rifle or shotgun.

So that a minor could hunt without breaking weapons laws. Probably never intended to defense a 17 year old carrying a rifle around city streets during a riot.

There are too many loopholes in Wisconsin's gun laws. The kid's lawyers are playing every angle including the wacko judge. It should never have gotten this far, if the laws were written better and enforced properly. On the other hand, Rittenhouse is still a juvenile and I don't believe he should be locked up for life. This kid's pathetic life has now been ruined by all the adults who could have done a better job.

This trial was rigged from the beginning. Even Shittenhouse's apologists and gloryhole groupies all agreed he'd probably do some time for possession of a dangerous weapon. Now that this clown shoes prince masquerading as a judge has dismissed this charge, the stage is now set for Cryin' Kyle to proudly goose step out of the courtroom a free Nazi scumbag.

This trial is a travesty.
