Rittenhouse: what happened to the gun charge?

As the judge was reading jury instructions he corrected himself by saying there were only 5 charges because the jury wouldn’t be considering the firearm charge.

What happened?

ETA: short answer is that a full length rifle is legal for 17 year old to possess in Wisconsin. I presume to allow for hunting.

ETA: kpete provided

I saw this online: Wisconsin statue says a 17 year-old can possess a rifle or shotgun as long as it’s not a short barreled rifle or shotgun. The prosecution agreed the gun was not a short barreled rifle or shotgun.

Have NO idea if this is true or not. But that's what I saw. Others will need to correct this/weigh in/explain

The prosecution fucked up by never measuring the length of the barrel. Amateurish.

at least about this charge.

I wish we could ban assault rifles. I don't think citizens need access to them at all.

This fella is going to walk essentially and thus be open to killing again....he will kill again....he will need to rise to self seeking attention and this has been a successful option...
