(9,304 posts)you can't assume a person is a criminal just because a sibling is - look at Paul Gosar, whose siblings all want him out of Congress because he's nuts.
In this case, however, you just shot that all to helll.

(15,178 posts)There is little indication that Charles Flynn either shares his brother's political views or agenda - or, that he had any particular role in Jan 6th decisions (beyond being "in the room" for a conference call) regarding National Guard mobilization. If information (or allegation) beyond this is available - I have not yet run across it. So - at this point it would seem that slandering Charles Flynn really is a mater of tarring with the same brush.
- CNN - Jan. 21, 2021 - "I entered the room after the call began and departed prior to the call ending, as I believed a decision was imminent from (then-Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy) and I needed to be in my office to assist in executing the decision," Flynn said in a statement released to CNN. There was no clear answer about how long Flynn was on the call or whether he contributed to the conversation.
The Washington Post reports that the Army "falsely denied for days that Lt. Gen. Charles A. Flynn" was involved in the key meetings. One of the officials who was on the call told CNN in the days following the insurrection at the Capitol that Flynn was not on the calls, but the military did not confirm his participation until Wednesday.
There is no indication that Charles Flynn agrees with his brother, who was a vocal adherent of disputing President Joe Biden's victory on behalf of the former president.

(3,927 posts)Any root cause analysis of the Benghazi events would go back to the mandatory budget cuts brought about by the sequester fiasco, orchestratde by Cancun Cruz and McConnell, that removed marine protections and switched over to locals. The locals in Benghazi did not walk away and surrender like the Afghani military did this year, but the insurgents all knew that they were not as well trained and were not as large in number as the previous protectors.
Laying Benghazi at Flynn's feet seems to miss the point that he appears to have been on Putin's payroll long before any of the rest of noticed (when he latched onto tRump)
He still needs to rot in jail after being interrogated and all the oney in all his accounts seized and sanctions laid on any russian who has paid him over the last 12 years.

(960 posts)Assuming this is true, Flynn should be rotting away in Leavenworth. A refusal to properly punish right wingers is one of this countries biggest faults. Whether it was Confederate leaders, the Business Plot conspirators, Nixon, Iran Contra, or now Flynn, Trump et al, it really causes incalculable harm.

(1,000 posts)Based on the "but, but, as soon as we get in again we can hit you with all sorts of investigations." SO? Isn't that exactly what they did to Clinton? FFS they tried to make Robert Bork a Supreme Court Justice because he fired Cox for Nixon during the Saturday Night Massacre, Nixon promised Bork the next seat on the Supreme Court, and the R's are still pissed Bork did not get the nomination.

He, Meadows and the other 17 people summoned will get equal treatment from the DOJ with criminal referrals.
Perhaps the problem is the congressional vote, that it won't hold up for the rest like it did for Bannon.

(23,678 posts)Obama warned Trump against hiring Flynn before inauguration
By JULIE PACE
AP, May 8, 2017
WASHINGTON (AP) President Barack Obama personally warned Donald Trump against hiring Michael Flynn to serve as his national security adviser, three former Obama administration officials said Monday, underscoring the depths of the outgoing White Houses concern about the man Trump would ultimately fire.
In an Oval Office meeting with Trump two days after the November election, Obama told his successor that there were more qualified candidates for the crucial White House post, according to one official. Flynn was fired as head of military intelligence by the Obama administration in 2014 amid questions about his management style and reports of insubordination. He became a fierce critic of Obamas policies and a fervent Trump supporter.

Mondays revelation from Obama administration officials came hours before former acting Attorney General Sally Yates and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper testified before a Senate panel investigating the Russian election interference. Yates detailed her own warnings to the Trump White House about Flynn, including meetings with the White House counsel in which she said that discrepancies over Flynns contacts with the Russian envoy left him vulnerable to blackmail by Moscow.
You dont want your national security adviser compromised with the Russians, Yates told a Senate panel investigating Russias election interference.

(15,744 posts)Flynn was head of DIA during the theft of the NSAs spying tools. They wound up on the Russian black market somehow. These were the crown jewels of our intel agencies. Now any hacker can get to any connected computer.

(71 posts)I had never heard about that NSA stuff. I am constantly flabbergasted that the MSM will go weeks harping on bs stories that are basically Republican outrage memes - based on sound bites instead of substance. And they let the actual, serious crimes fade out of public view.
For instance, remember at the very end of TFGs term when there was a major hack on government computers, including DOJ and many others? IIRC it was described as the largest breach on our systems ever and all the experts said the consequences would be dire. Of course, Russia eventually was said to behind the attack. And during the reporting, Trump had No Comment. Let me say that again, Trump said nothing. The man who will always have nonsense to spout in all circumstances. Doesn't it seem likely that Trump,or his sycophants that he appointed, just "handed over the keys" to the USA on their way out? Probably as a precondition to all the help he got since announcing he would run for president. FFS Trump was letting people take furnishings out of the White House the last few days! And that was caught on camera but never mentioned again!

(13,849 posts)They were always considered RW. The RW was so different then, mostly -- they ADORED George W. He was perfectly great, in their eyes. A traditionalist. Now they adore and rabidly support Trump and Flynn and all the evil -- and they are fanatics. The transition is stunning.
