(42,770 posts)recommend Netflix doc on trump family. Bannon was the one, early on, who said " if you're willing to act like you are appeasing the fundies you could be prez" and fg said " ya, I can do that"!

(13,090 posts)In a civil contempt case, the person is refusing to comply with a court subpoena - usually from a grand jury. The subpoena is a writ of the court and the court will enforce it. In civil contempt, the person refusing to comply can be jailed until they "purge" them self of the contempt by complying with the subpoena. The person being held for contempt is said to hold the keys to the jail - they will be released upon complying.
In a criminal contempt case - like Bannon - there is a criminal charge for past contempt. If convicted, the person will serve out the sentence adjudged whether or not they later comply. Because it is a criminal charge, the defendant has a constitutional right to reasonable bond pretrial.
It would be interesting if the US Attorney for DC impanels a grand jury to investigate Jan 6 and sends Bannon a subpoena. If he violates a grand jury subpoena (again, a writ of the court), I would expect the judge to put Bannon in jail until he complies.

(13,849 posts)Despite the fact that he was arrested on the yacht of a Chinese billionaire, the last go-round and should be considered a flight risk if he wants to flee.
A purpose of an arrest vs. turning oneself in after the weekend, and of a perp walk to jail is DETERRENCE.
Treating him like a gentleman in this matter is a waste -- and gives him the upper hand as he held his little press moment this morning.

(13,090 posts)If I was the judge, I would require that his passport be surrendered and a sufficient bond posted to encourage appearance for trial.

(34,852 posts)Some of the Jan 6th defendants were released on their own recognizance.
I think Jenny Cudd was one of them.
Let's face it, the bond in this case would probably be about $1,000.

(13,090 posts)Bannon will appear for trial. He would be unable to resist the cameras.

(34,852 posts)He's probably gonna get 3 weeks in jail with time off at the very most.
He will remain silent, but it's not the end of the world.

(31,126 posts)I got the wrong reporter, was looking for the one who sat in jail for not giving up sources in a different case.
This happens occasionally when I don't check my sources thoroughly.
Sorry, self deleting.
