.... their committee seats for threatening violence but our "liberal media" continues to play up the dems are in disarray crap.
We should demand that any member of congress that helped out in the 1/6/21 attempt to overturn our democracy needs to be forced out of the House or Senate .
The time to play nice with these shits is over and we need to control the message.

(11,704 posts)The Democrats need to publicly make the attempt.
I'm sick of wishy-washy mewlings about how we can't even try because republicon scum won't go along with it therefore it can't be done.
Dems need to be seen making the attempt, and as you say, put the criminals on record.

(53,194 posts)It clearly says that no one who participated in insurrection can be in Congress, and it takes a two-thirds vote to let them back in. This was written to readmit members from the old Confederacy, but itll still work.

(2,173 posts)But no matter who wins/loses, we simply cannot go on like this with all the bitter hatred and violence in politics. I may be taking an idealist approach here, but I believe the emphasis somehow has to be on finding some middle ground and doing a political infrastructure so to speak, and mending fences and building bridges.
doc03
(39,086 posts)the country down to please a mad man? There were a few Republicans that voted for the infrastructure bill, they
won't be there next year because of it. It's alright to threaten your opponent with death but you get punished for
voting for an infrastructure bill that has been wanted by both parties for decades.

(2,173 posts)All I'm saying is that my approach isn't very realistic. It's simply wishful thinking. I've been wishful thinking since I was a kid about Raquel Welch and so far it's not panning out either.

(2,957 posts)..wishful thinking won't get it. The existing administration must get the voting rights bill passed and nullify all the latest state anti-democracy laws and gerrymandering.

Septua
(2,957 posts)..peace and tranquility same as you, there is no middle ground to be had. The Republican Party is no longer a functioning political organization with a Democracy based platform. McCarthy wants to be Speaker, McConnell wants to be majority leader, the remainder just want to keep their jobs and they are all afraid of Trump and his base.
If they regain Congressional control in 2022, we're doomed.

(11,704 posts)All one has to do is look back at the last 50 or so years and the pattern is clear. They intend to take and keep control of the country.
They're at that point now. Next time, we won't get it back. And we can thank people like the Maserati-driving Joe Manchin for failing to do everything possible to protect voting rights.

(11,704 posts)You can see it in many of the posts right here. Constant comments such as "Oh my, we can't do that so let's just not talk about it" or "Why would you even bring that up, they won't let us" .
The passiveness and outright animosity toward those who DO want to take action makes me want to puke.

ALL candidates.
For House, for Senate, for Presidency.
TFG could not have passed.

Ditto M.T.Greene
Prolly not Gomert. Prolly not Gosar.

(13,018 posts)The loudest, most absurd defenders of Gosar during the hearing in the house were all the ones most likely directly in the planning and coordination of the coup AND defending the coup. Even stepping into the well of the house with him when Pelosi read the penalties to Gosar. Green, (maskless and hopefully fined again) Gohmert, Gaetz, Jordon, Boebert and Gosar himself. Everyone of the pathetic traitors need to be in jail for attempted and still planning the next coup attempt. Maybe a firing squad with Greens and Boeberts personal arsenal.

(8,202 posts)Exactly. I've realized how many people don't really pay attention to what politicians are really doing, or the affects it has on them or the country, they just believe whatever they're told by the media, they believe the messages they hear & form opinions (& vote) based on that.
As for the root cause of the problem, I'm convinced it's because our American education system (K-12) is based on a "believe what you're told" model that discourages critical thinking. Critical thinking skills aren't really emphasized until college, & look at the college vs non-college breakdown of support for Trump & other right wing loony politicians. Too many people go from 12+ years of school-based "believe what you're told" indoctrination (by authority figures, teachers, giving you information) & move right on to "believe what you're told" by authority figure talking heads in the media, without ever learning the critical thinking skills necessary to analyze & evaluate the accuracy & truthfulness of what they're being told.
I'm afraid that until we change our approach to education, this problem will only get worse.

Yes we do have issues if we incubate them. Republicans would be blind-sided by such.

(7,046 posts)NOW!
The DNC needs to allocate money to push into the district of each one of them, radio ads, local Democratic party officials, they need to put the pressure on, burn up the email and phone lines, protest at the offices of these goons and whether there's a chance they could get the votes they need or not, the proceedings to remove them need to be on the fast track.
I think the pressure will push enough Republicans, who really want this mess to be over and done with, to see that there is a lot of public support for integrity, and they will vote to remove these nut jobs from Congress.
