(23,639 posts)"That event might have been impactful in August or September or October..."
Oh, but sadly it didn't pass until November, which was juuuuuuust too late for Chuck to give Democrats credit for it. What an unfortunate coincidence.
If the bill had passed in October:
"That event might have been impactful in July or August or September..."
If the bill had passed in September:
"That event might have been impactful in June or July or August..."
If the bill had passed in August:
"That event might have been impactful in May or June or July..."
You get the picture.

(26,262 posts)Man, these broadcasters are so desperate to stir the embers up on any issue to juice up their ratings. I suspect what instead is happening is burnout among trump followers (when does the guy ever make sense or just flat out shut up?).
These broadcasters are trying to incite/stir up any issue in order to juice up their ratings for advertising dollars. They will end up losing viewers as viewers increasingly get turned off by this constant rump this, rump that, who gives a hoot anymore?
From my way of thinking, I suspect that rump will really stick his foot in his mouth multiple times (besides those he's already done), and he'll really mess up because he can't resist shutting the hell up.

The guy who signs his contact and paycheck thinks he's doing a fine job, and being paid commensurate to his worth.
What the job is and to whom it is "worth it" may differ from standard views of the job title "journalist."

(64,688 posts)remember when he was going to lose his time slot and essentially be assigned as a fill in host (as I recall), but nothing ever happened? We never heard why, but my guess is that some suit really, really liked what Todd did and shielded him.

(96,882 posts)If you want to get rid of Todd, get people to stop watching. Complaining about him here (and especially WATCHING him so you can complain) won't achieve anything.

(13,688 posts)I think that's a very slippery slope. If you don't like what he says don't listen to him. I don't. But we shouldn't go around firing people who express contrary opinions.

(3,621 posts)now that the right wing lies and propaganda have gotten to a fever pitch with GOP congressmen and senators cheering treason & murderous insurrection and complete mental cases waiting for the return of JFK Jr in Dallas, the ol' "difference of opinion" and "don't listen to it if you don't like it" thing has really lost it's punch.

(13,688 posts)that we listen to each other and respect contrary opinions. Of course Trumpers are out of bounds and deserve no respect, only derision. But I am talking about the rest of us. Just like President Biden said, and I am paraphrasing, he disagrees with Joe Manchin on some issues but he still respects him. I think that is the attitude that we should all have. And Chuck Todd, while he can be an asshole, is not a Trumper. We should not go around firing people like him because we disagree with the opinions that they express.
Skittles
(171,741 posts)for example, I don't have to respect someone like Manchin who is on a sickening power trip....Joe has obvious reasons for having to his his ass. I do NOT.

Really. Is there anyone here who still thinks he was telling the truth about Hillary Clinton? He and all the rest of those who are paid by NBCUniversal and Turner Broadcasting to deceive, demoralize, and depress the vote for Democrats?

After reaching a 21st-century peak in 2008, average primetime viewership across the three cable news channels fell by a third by 2014. The median age of Americans watching CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News was, respectively, 61, 63, and 67. In short, cable news is a gerontocratic kingdom where Fox News serves as king, with more than twice the audience of CNN and triple that of MSNBC.
Since Trump descended that escalator last June, cable news fortunesparticularly CNNshave been ascendant. Total primetime viewership for the three channels grew by 8 percent in 2015, and profits soared by about a fifth at both CNN and Fox News. Trump may be destroying U.S. democratic norms, but he appears, for the moment, to be one big beautiful orange life raft for the flagging cable news business.
