I'm pissed and have to get a COVID test ...

Last edited Mon Nov 22, 2021, 03:40 PM - Edit history (2)

ALLL this time and vaccinated and i get exposed by my daughter's roomate's mother! (And I wprk in Hotel Front Desk!)

She's a typical assholle anti-vaxxer and her BF got it and they didnt test for it and said it wasnt covid...
The roommate saw her Tuesday (I guess she was already starting to get sick by then) and the kids were both a little sniffly when we went out yesterday.

Now the roomate (only had one shot so far) is feeling sick today and my daughter is still just a little icky. The mother called and told them TODAY oh yeah, it IS covid...oops!

I know you cant get it that fast, (right? 24-28 hours? ...oh shit, what if I got it at work instead?)
But I have been sneezing and runny ALLLL day since I got to work. Then my daughter sends me the text to get tested this afternoon.

Now I'm paranoid...
Now watching for ANY other symptoms.
Literally have not been "sick" since 2019 (Other than my usual autoimmune shit)
I am hoping my vaccination will help. Now I'm so fucking scared and PISSED

I think it’s 2-4 days before onset of symptoms with delta variant.

Don’t be scared…your vaccine should protect you. Hydrate.

I had a positive test in September, in spite of being double vaxxed. My doc's office told me to keep an eye on my temp, but we have 4 or 5 digital thermometers, and they registered vastly different temps. I got a pulse oxymeter, and kept a really close eye on that. I never got really sick.

Also--must remember, people still get colds. Just because you're sick, doesn't mean it's covid.

Gaughter's roommate saw mother on tuesday, she knew she was sick and didnt say anything till today

I spent the afternoon and evening with my daughter and the roommate in the car and eating together... they both said they had "colds" but that was all they knew at the time.

Today, roomate is sicker (nose, throat and some aches & chills), daughter still just holding with a snotty nose and sore throat.

I have been sneezing and getting progressively more snotty as the day goes by. Can't really tell if anything else is wrong yet... but like I said it's only been 24 hours. It could be a false alarm in my case. UNLESS I got it at work Thursday?

I know it sucks, but if any of you has covid, it's better to know so you can all take responsible next steps to minimize spread and to ensure that you do everything you can do to mitigate the course of the illness.

ANY symptoms of cold, allergies, sore throat, headache should immediately trigger you to stay home until you test negative.

I have been exposed so many times this year it is getting hard to keep track of - and virtually all were by people who were sure that they just had colds, allergies, sore throat, headache. It couldn't possibly be COVID, since they were all vaccinated.

PLEASE * * * PLEASE - stay home if you have ANY symptoms. People who are vaccinated and have breakthorugh cases are every bit as contagious as people who have COVID who aren't vaccinated.

Sorry to unload, but - as annoyed as you are at your daughter's roommate's mother - I'm just as annoyed at all of the people who were vaccinated and came to work/school when they had a "cold" "allergies" etc. becuase they couldn't possibly have COVID.

And yes, you can get it in 48 hours.

In more than half of the instances in which friends/acquaintances were certain they just had something else, they didn't.

My mantra continues to be vax up, mask up, and remember that vaccination is not a magic shield. Hope you (and those around you) get lucky and it is just a cold!

Vaccinated husband and three children - including a relatively newly diagnosed T1 diabetic. After experiencing "allergies," she continued to share overnight duties caring for the child with diabetes. (She is probably the third most careful person I know - with me being the second most careful. The most careful is a co-worker who wears a mask, shield, and nitrile gloves.)

Fortunately, no one in her family had a severe case.

I get it that we aren't used to staying home for the sniffles. It's a sea change in how we think about the sniffles and work - but we have to make that sea change in our attitude.

I keep a supply of test kits at home (we get them for free from the health department or the library). Even though I'm scrupulous about masking, I get tested every other week (since I encounter up to 100 people a day). And any time I've got sniffles, GI symptoms, etc. - OR - any of the several times I've been exposed, I use one of the test kits before I leave the house. We tested my spouse who has had severe allergies all of her life (for more than 6 decades) before we went for early Thanksgiving with my parents. Even though it was exactly the same as every other weather-change allergy attack. I'm just not willing to risk being part of a transmission vector.

They are supposed to be localized to her gut (entyvio/vidoluzomab), but her doctor recommended that she get a booster anyway. So we're a fully boostered family.

The autoimmune stuff may save you. It has always kept my daughter safe from lots of creepy crud stuff. She was exposed to COVID exactly a year ago - and since I had read her the riot act about masking when she was with people other than our household within a day of that exposure she was afraid to tell me. So instead of coming home she went back and hung out some more with those who exposed her (not realizing that duration of exposure would increase her chances of getting it). But even with several hours of full exposure, she still didn't get it. Her exposure trashed my annual pie-baking fest, since I could't risk sending 20 COVID-infected pies to homeless folks . . . but at least she didn't get it. And a year has passed, and I'm in the midst of baking 40 pumpkin pies. 16 for the law school where I teach, 20 for the local homeless shelter, and another 4 for family and friends. Daughter just left with 3/8 of a pie for her buddies at Amazon.

Hope you and yours escape COVID!

Like how she's soooooo sick and she WISHES she'd gotten vaxxed. Her BF is now in the hospital with covid pneumonia... he's one of those Trumper assholes too.

I dont speak to her, she's a POS partent and I've seen her damage her kid since middleschool. He's trans and she still deadnames him and misgenders on purpose. She made him wear a dress for middleschool graduation. This kid has got a laundry list of mental health issues that he's working on now that he's out of her house. Im glad my daughter has been such a good friend over the years.

Are you boosted? Go to get tested immediately and if positive demand monoclonal antibodies and or the new pill or both if allowed and safe. Tell them you have recent symptoms. Hugs to you.

I just turned down an invite from a friend I have not seen for years to a home movie marathon. I texted is everyone fully vaxed, answer was no, which I expected. I wouldn’t go even with fully vaxed people though because I would have to wear a mask anyway. And how do I know who is being honest.

Hopefully if it is covid you will have a mild case but I would get every treatment possible anyway to make sure it is. I had it in the beginning of the pandemic and had double pneumonia. Terrible pain, sick for weeks, twice to er and I am now a lh. My father had it, negligently infected in January at an er, he died last month, also caused by the hospital. He had 10 hospitalizations from the damage it did to him and he became an invalid, he was never the same after. The damage was to his heart, bladder and brain mostly it seemed and who knows what else.
