Florida woman arrested after Canadian border agents seize 56 illegal weapons

Canadian authorities said Friday they arrested a Florida resident who tried to smuggle 56 guns into their country from Port Huron earlier this month.

Officials with the Canada Border Services Agency said Vivian Richards, 48, of Oakland Park, Florida, has been charged with multiple crimes, including attempting to smuggle, unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession for the purpose of weapons trafficking.

:snip:

Officials said the charges stem from the agency's Nov. 1 seizure of a vehicle referred for secondary examination at the Blue Water Bridge port of entry in Point Edward, Ontario.

During the examination, CBSA officers discovered 56 undeclared prohibited firearms,13 over-capacity magazines, 43 ten-round pistol magazines and 100 rounds of ammunition, located in boxes in the trunk of the car. All of the items were seized, they said.

“The Canada Border Services Agency is the first line of defense for our country," Marco E. L. Mendicino, Canada's minister of public safety, said in a statement. "The smuggling of firearms is a threat to public safety and this seizure is an example of our steadfast commitment to preventing dangerous criminal activities and keeping Canadians safe."

There's absolutely no other logical explanation for crossing an international border with that number of firearms, and extremely similar ones at that. It looks like a freaking Glock commercial.

Smuggle the guns or the hostage dies... A real no win situation..
I wonder what the tip off was for the border patrol..
I got tossed by Canadian border patrol just for shits and grins... They put me in a room while they took everything out of my motorcycle cases and bags. After 2 hrs they let me go.. "just routine" they said..

did she buy them all from one firearms dealer here in the u s of a? Once she cleared the first purchase she didn't have to wait three days to buy the rest, just plunk down the money and away she went.

that's a lot of pistols.

I was under the impression there was a "cooling off" period of three days for the first firearm purchase. If you had a CCW or some other piece of paper that was waived. Not up on the latest gun stuff at all.

An old friend had a medical emergency in the Yukon, and his wife asked me to fly up and drive their old motor home back to Seattle.
No prob at the border...old guy, old motorhome..
Let us right thru.

Guy got well and was grateful. Only then did anybody tell be he had a shotgun and a "saturday nite special" .25 auto pistol hidden under the fold-out couch.

I about shit!
