(115,894 posts)and who benefited politically and financially from British rule. Rittenhouse is about as far away from that as one could get. He is a dumb, sorry-ass kid who wanted to be important and thought being a vigilante would make him a hero. Temporarily, he's achieved that goal since his case became a cause celebre among the MAGAt right-wing and Fox "News," but they'll get tired of him when the next outrage comes along. Don't make more of him than he really is.

(59,507 posts)I would add that his case is an example that really explains white privilege. It took me a long time to understand that privilege existed even when the white person does not benefit from even moderate socioeconomic status. You could not ask for a better example of this. Before he went to Kenosha he was just a maladjusted high school dropout with delusions of being an EMT/Police/Fireman.
I agree that for a while he will be the far right's new shiny toy. However, I suspect they will tire of him as soon as something else comes along.

(115,894 posts)of right-wing gun-nut vigilante crap, and that would have happened whether or not he wanted it to happen. Right now he might be enjoying all the attention but unless he's a whole lot smarter than he seems to be, it will ruin him. Before long Tucker Carlson will get tired of him and go on to the next cause that he thinks will trigger the libs, and if Kyle doesn't do some more stupid shit that actually does land him in prison, he'll end up a sad, discarded dope like George Zimmerman.

(10,303 posts)As far as I'm concerned any Republican is a *'n Tory. And I share my feelings about the Tories / Republicans with the late Nye Bevan.

(8,974 posts)It always has. The UK Conservative Party's "nickname" is Tories. During the American Revolutionary War, King George's status quo was defended by self-described Tories. If today's conservatives were conservative when the Declaration of Independence was written, they would have sided with the British. They and everyone else needs to be reminded of this whenever the misused "patriot" label gets brandished.
