The Parrish man who posed for photos after stealing Nancy Pelosis lectern during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot has pleaded guilty to illegally entering the Capitol that day.
Adam Johnson, 36, pleaded guilty Monday morning to one count of entering or remaining in any restricted building. In exchange for his plea and accepting responsibility, federal prosecutors are not seeking any prison time.
Johnson was quickly identified after photos of him smiling and waving while carrying the lectern went viral, and other Manatee County residents recognized him and submitted tips to the FBI. The lectern valued at more than $1,000 according to the House curator was later found by Senate staff in the Red corridor of the Senate wing off the Rotunda in the Capitol.
The lead prosecutor, Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica Arca, and Johnsons defense attorneys, Dan Eckhart and David Bigney, determined as part of the plea agreement signed Oct. 26 that prison time would not be appropriate. The U.S. Attorneys Office also agreed to reduce Johnsons score on sentencing guidelines because he has taken responsibility for his actions that day.

(6,265 posts)was part of an attempted coup. But he didn't 'hurt anyone so he'll go free. If, as in a Rittenhouse scenario and this coup attempt been perpetrated by African-Americans and allies protesting racism and racial injustice that has continued for 400+ years. Many dead. And IF A 17-YEAR-OLD black child had an illegal weapon: nuke. REMEMBER Tamir Rice 11-YEAR-OLD shot down like a dog while playing with a toy gun. Many many dead. I know, I know it's always been this way, white privilege and a sense of total entitlement and it always will be. RIGHT?

(25,983 posts)Why? What reason was there for dropping charges? He had way too much fun mugging for cameras while walking away with government property. Just because he pled guilty to trespassing, prosecutors are not going to press any other charges or ask for jail time. They're saying that he's "taken responsibility" -- in what way?

I got nothin'.
So, he had a great time showing off as he stole government property, he serves no time, and now he wants to write a book about it. The judge told him he can't keep any profits from that book unless he waits five years to publish, boo hoo.
Never mind. Next!
