We believe the individuals and organizations we subpoenaed today have relevant information about how violence erupted at the Capitol and the preparation leading up to this violent attack.

(26,357 posts)or are they going to actually hold people accountable and put them in jail?

(78,534 posts)know that the Committee sent was on Steve Bannon. It was presented to a grand jury, and he has been indicted. The process works slowly, no matter who has been AG. I do hope the Committee send more cases to the DOJ soon, of course, and wish that things would pick up in pace.

(30,613 posts)I hope it sets the tone going forward.

(78,534 posts)as he is dangerous. My late father used to use one of his favorite LBJ lines, that God is giving us a warning by the way that man looks, something I think of when I see Bannon.

(115,060 posts)...that is for sure. I think your father may have been on to something there, especially when coupled with his actions.

(78,534 posts)at least as dangerous right now as Trump. He suffers from a severe case of ethical rabies, and is intent upon spreading the disease. I recognize that he is fairly intelligent, though twisted. An evil man.He also is remarkably over-confident, and prone to error. Those errors, unfortunately, pose a greater threat to our country, than to Bannon, in the long run.

(115,060 posts)Judging by the number of subpoenas, one might think the Committee expects them to rule in their favor, even though Trump will appeal the decision. The Supreme Court could put it to sleep rather quickly if they choose. Or they may choose to play politics?
Either way, we should have a much clearer view after the Appeals Court decision, in my opinion.
The Trump et al nonsense will not gain any support in the federal courts, as Trump has no more privilege than he has power to issue pardons. Just my opinion, but I think that timing is the important factor here.

(115,060 posts)At least, I hope so.
Reality needs to slap a few of them in the face.

(78,534 posts)I certainly am not happy with a number of appointments to the federal courts made during the Trump presidency. However, I note that when his freak show filed their big lie in the courts, even judges appointed by Trump ruled against him. All of them.
Might there be a few qwak links scattered about in courts? Yes, but I think we are in a really good position in terms of the court cases. I'm a bit more concerned about the mid-terms, though more from the record of mid-terms in my life time. But even there, I think the Democratic Party has the very real potential of making gains.

(21,182 posts)One question I'd like to see the Select Committee ask some of their "guests" is this:
Who decided on the date of the "Stop the Steal" rally and why did they choose January 6--a Wednesday? Why not on a weekend like January 2 or 3 which would be more convenient for rallygoers and likely to draw a bigger crowd? A peaceful protest can be held whenever it's convenient, right?
I think I know the answer.

(53,544 posts)when insurrectionists illegally entered. First a warning. Second smoke or gas with a fan set up to blow at them. Then lethal force if they continued.
On another note. Anyone that was in the military and involved as an insurrectionist need to lose their military burial benefits.
