I still like formented better. Fomented just feels wrong...to heck with the dictionary.

He did join the confederacy and was even elected to their House of Representatives. Fortunately, he died soon after being elected there.

He was a state’s rights extremist and very pro slavery. He and his ilk should have their ideology be common knowledge so people know who the worst members of our past are.

The only cool fact about him is that even though he was born in 1790, one of his grandsons is still alive!
