But I suspect he figured he had this "criminal" on tape and that would support their case when they caught him. He may have posted it someplace himself to show everybody.
ETA: Ari Melber says a lawyer leaked the tape after talking to the suspects to "get the truth out there."
Details:
GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. In a stunning twist to a story that drew worldwide attention, Channel 2 Action News has confirmed that the man who leaked the viral video of the shooting of an unarmed black jogger in south Georgia is one of the murder suspects (.
The video spread across social media just days before the Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested Gregory and Travis McMichael. It shows Travis McMichael and Ahmaud Arbery in the street in Satilla Shores, a neighborhood outside Brunswick.
~
Channel 2 investigative reporter Mark Winne has confirmed that Greg McMichael leaked the video to a radio station, starting the avalanche of attention that landed him in jail on murder charges with his son.
Brunswick attorney Alan Tucker says Greg McMichael wanted to clear up some rumors circulating in the community and he had no idea the video would spark global outrage.

(22,591 posts)That right there is some truly epic stupid!
But I absolutely believe that galoot is really THAT stupid, because only THAT degree of stupid could explain such an abysmally stupid act.

If you and someone else goes in to rob a bank, and your colleague shoots someone, it doesnt matter that you didnt have a gun, or even that you didnt know they had a gun. You would likely be just as guilty as the killer.

(14,720 posts)But he was Guilty on the kidnapping and murder, so hes probably looking at life.
In the bank robbery case I used, the difference is that the state usually only seeks the death penalty for the actual killer.
I know a bit about this subject because my wife used to handle death penalty appeals. She then switched to tenant and creditor law, and said it was a relief to know that at least her clients would still be alive even if they lost their case.
Irish_Dem
(81,277 posts)So he did get out of some of the lesser charges, but the bigger ones he was found guilty.
Meaning life in prison most likely.
Thank you for the information!
Yes I don't blame your wife. Would be nerve wracking to see a client face the death penalty.

(30,179 posts)I'm glad this case brought some justice to Mr. Arbery's family, but the Rittenhouse verdict proves wild west vigilanteism is still very much alive. Jim Crow lingers in this case because these men thought they had the right to make a citizen's arrest by hunting down a Black man who was just out for a jog, and then claim self-defense when he called them on their bullshit. "Citizen's arrest" is a policing concept that's straight out of the Confederacy, since the only legal citizens were white men which meant any white guy could hunt and arrest any Black person at any time.
*Edited to add: I know Georgia abolished their citizen arrest law after this case, but that still leaves citizen arrest laws on the books in 49 states.
