Sentient aren't high order thinking beings, just respond to logically to input

(14,274 posts)If they're declaring invertebrates to be sentient, there is an equal case to be made for cows, pigs, and sheep. Hell, even fish and fowl.
When they realize plants have a form of communication and limited awareness, there will be nothing left to eat.

(7,638 posts)Since I've killed crabs by the bushels. I've been known to murder a few squid also. Dang. Maybe I am guilty of genocide? I've only murdered a couple lobsters. Just think they taste like nothing. Not worth murdering.
Just hope we never learn bacteria or virus are sentient, that would be a crazy number of murders.

(35,328 posts)would be the plural in Latin but octopuses is English. I prefer octopi sounds better.
I heard a guy several years ago use the word Foci for the plural of the Ford Focus.

(33,575 posts)humanely killing them before cooking?
Lobsters might be sentient, but no more than a cockroach, whose brains theirs resemble. Octopi, on the other hand, appear to be very intelligent.

(21,563 posts)I watch Masterchef and Gordon Ramsey pointed out in several episodes that before throwing them in the pot of boiling water you take a knife and pierce the head where the brain is which he has said is the "most humane" way of killing them because it instantly kills them as opposed to I suppose the painful and not instant death of the pot of boiling water...
that is reasonable.

(4,425 posts)Individuals and the seafood industry are still free to kill these animals in any way they choose. I like seafood and am happy to comply with humane kill methods. If I was running a large seafood business I might be less, um, sanguine about the issue.
