Suspect in Waukesha parade attack has history of domestic violence. Experts aren't surprised.

The violence starts at home. Then it spills out to the public.

The 39-year-old Milwaukee man charged in the Waukesha Christmas Parade attack, which left six people dead and more than 60 injured, had a history of domestic violence and violence against women.

Experts and advocates who help survivors of domestic abuse say it's a troubling pattern they've seen repeatedly in mass casualty events.

"Domestic violence family violence predicts mass shootings," said Karin Tyler, the injury and violence prevention coordinator for the city of Milwaukee's Office of Violence Prevention.

Nearly 60% of 749 mass shootings between 2014 and 2019 were either domestic violence attacks or committed by men with histories of domestic violence, a 2020 Bloomberg analysis found. A peer-reviewed academic study released earlier this year had a similar finding: About 59% of the 110 mass shootings analyzed were related to domestic violence.

1. Hit a woman, go to jail.

At least, for a day or two.

And, I'm confused. I believe he used a car, not a gun, right???

7. Ran over one of his domestic partners too.

Guess he feels like a big man surrounded by a ton of steel.

10. Yes, that's what I was referring to.

Hit: Strike.
Hit: Strike, and run over. Leaving tire marks on her leg.

2. IMO, domestic violence should be a red flag for so many things.

If you can't be nice to the people you live with, we're gonna keep a close eye on you. IMO, we should go to their house & take their guns. It should also be a criteria in vetting people for positions of authority, like law enforcement, management, etc. If you're mean to the people you live with, you don't get to have authority over others.

3. Yes, and I would include animal abusers in that group.

Animal abuse can be a sign of serious psychological problems. People who do that shit should be in a database that should be checked by employers of certain occupations.

5. If you can wound and cripple those you supposedly "love" it's a logical step to spread that hate.

Not saying it is any type of SANE or RATIONAL thought, but people who beat those they love are not sane and/or rational.

Committing violence at home is the act of a violent person who feels justified in getting away with it.

Most mental health issues get worse without treatment.

So that the behavior expands outward makes scary sense.

6. Give him a MAGA hat and a Tiki torch and set up a Gofundme for him.

Give him a MAGA hat and a Tiki torch and set up a Gofundme for him.

Trump will say good people on both sides.

9. Non-experts also not surprised.

As a human who has read enough of the news to see how frequently terrorist lone-actor a-holes are retrospectively found to have records of domestic violence, I doubt I'm alone in my non-expert non-surprise.
