(7,952 posts)Nastiness has been built into the national character for a long time but now it's out of control.

(47,419 posts)in this country. Compassion and empathy are for "losers". This isn't anything new either. I've seen it my whole life. "Nice guys finish last....blah, blah, blah."

(63,221 posts)It's sickening. And we wonder why we have such out of control problems with violence and guns.

(5,125 posts)SIMPLE. Christians have 1 JOB to do - given to US by The Lord, Christ. And if they can't see that compassion is part of that, it is their own sight that is crooked and their own soul that is blackened.
If it was good enough for CHRIST, and they are bashing Biden for it, they are slapping God in the face too.
Jesus wasn't any weak pansy, but he was good to the people he came in contact with. Kind, compassionate. Gave His life. It's why they think police and military service is such a big thing. Someone willing to die for the country or community is a big deal.
The ones who got harsh words from Jesus? The Pharisees (leaders of the church who were Lording it over others, making a big deal about their money and their good deeds.... sitting in the front of the Temple so everyone could see them "being good" and Jesus called them on it.) Sound like anyone we know? (drumph)
Jesus healed the sick, patiently talked to tax collectors and prostitutes. He wasn't putting on airs and being fake.
Jesus' behavior is a lot more like Biden's than any of the MAGAs and especially different from tRump's.
So if being compassionate is such a bad thing, they can take it up at the gates of Heaven that they won't get into because Jesus was very clear that being kind and compassionate was "The Way" He wanted US to follow.
If they would quit just holding the Bible up as a photo opportunity, open it and read the darn thing, a lot of this BS would go away.

(145,176 posts)I got to meet Joe Biden twice at fundraisers here in Houston in 2019. At one fundraiser Joe signed three floor signs used during the 2016 National Convention during his speech. During each speech at a national convention, signs are passed out for delegates to waive during the speech and I was able to collect and bring back some of these floor signs. One sign was inscribed by President Biden with "keep the faith".
At the second fund raiser we got to talk about stuttering. I stuttered until 4th grade and my kids can tell when I am over tired because hints of a stutter show up. President Biden told me that he has stuttering issues when he is tired also. President Biden told me about the the 20 or so teenagers/young persons who he keets track of.
This man is a truly decent human being.

That child will remember this and benefit from it her entire life.
Thank you, Mr. President for staying true to yourself for all of us....... ......

2. He whispered in her ear "tell mommy and daddy to come along too. But I have a "favor" to ask, tell them to bring s $10,000 check. I promise I will be happy to see you then. If they want a picture better make that $12,000.

"I promise you it'll go away if you just keep at it, OK?" Biden tells the girl -- whose name is Avery -- in a video posted to Twitter on Sunday by Rufus Gifford, who is awaiting confirmation to be chief of protocol at the US State Department.
"Thank you, Mr. President," Avery responded, smiling before giving Biden a hug. The President then invited her to come down to the White House to see him in the Oval Office.
Avery is Gifford's niece. Gifford was deputy campaign manager for Biden's 2020 presidential campaign and was a top adviser on Barack Obama's reelection campaign. He served in the Obama administration for several years as the US ambassador to Denmark.
