A customer was at my daughters desk where she has pictures of her kids. The customer, a white woman, complimented how cute my granddaughter is, and then told her we need more white babies in the country.

My daughter looked at her and stated, well you are out of luck here because my baby isn't white.

My granddaughter is part Ojibwe, and Her ancestors have been here longer than any white people.

What kind of hateful horrible nasty person are you to say that about anyone, let alone babies.

I am so tired of some people this year.

They claimed it was an okay sexuality for their congregations, but not for ministerial leadership. I was at a Methodist seminary at the time, and I can't tell you how many fantastic spiritual leaders they lost in the exodus to other, accepting denominations. BIG loss for the Methodists with that doubling-down on bigotry bullshit.

(By the by, I went to a Methodist seminary even though I'm not a Methodist. That school is known as the leftest-wing of their seminaries, so much so that the UMC has tried to shut them down a couple times. Their Peace Studies program is phenomenal.)

Babies were shipped from cities and slums on trains to the midwest and adopted by farmers or well-positioned business couples. There are documentaries on it, some famous people were such children. This was a do-good Christian thing from about the 1880s, might have been in response to parents dying in a disease-laden era. I can't recall the context of why it caught my attention, but I'm sure it wasn't any part of my genealogy.
