Will Curt Schilling make it into the Hall-of-Fame this year? He's in his final year of eligibility to make it and one early ballot isn't exactly going to be something that gives many folks who want him in hope that he'll actually make it.
Jack McCaffery submitted the first ballot for this year's round of Hall-of-Fame voting and Schilling wasn't a player McCaffery picked despite previously voting for him.

(9,256 posts)To quote the late great Phillies manager Jim Fregosi, every five days hes a real horse on the mound. The other four days hes just a horses ass. And thats from before he got involved with politics.

his stats he is basically a .500 pitcher with 3 great seasons. If he is HOF material so is Hershiser. They have almost identical stats and Hershiser was equally dominant in post season baseball. He was in an era that he should have 250 wins.

(7,611 posts)I have been a national league fan since my dad took me to Ebbets field in 1955. I just think the sportswriters are selective on who they like. Ortiz and Pudge both used steroids. You also can't convince me that Piazza and Bagwell weren't users.

(5,383 posts)at one time the braves had tom glavine, greg maddox, and john smoltz on the roster. i think phil niekro nay have been on that same team. at any rate, has any other team had 3 or 4 hall of fame pitchers on the roster?

(5,383 posts)don larson's perfect game in the 1956 world series will always be remembered. alas, neither larson nor "bullet bob" turley are in the hall of fame.
likewise, only palmer of those great orioles made it to cooperstown.

(21,988 posts)It's difficult for me to work up any enthusiasm for retired multi-millionaire ballplayers getting their egos stroked.
I love baseball as a sport but the business of MLB has ruined that part of the game for me. I'd rather watch a local high school or college team play.
An additional thought: Schilling is a jackass as a person. He did pitch well, especially for 3 seasons. But his public comments and persona reveal a stupid jerk.
