(26,261 posts)Less than 5,000 people. As I recall, it's kind of a middle to upper middle class place - lots of auto industry salaried families, at one time.

(3,332 posts)I think that was applicable to most of my friends and classmates. This current level of class-room violence was just completely alien to us. I wasn't in a really big or really small school, my neighborhood was older middle class. And my high school was as racially diverse as one could hope for.
I have a really difficult time imagining what goes through the minds of high school students these days, the concerns they must have, the almost indifferent attitude of going to class every day and thinking "no one got shot and killed in my class today."

(478 posts)Students can not be kids anymore and make dumb kid mistakes. I have a senior in high school not far from this school who because he has no brain-to-mouth filter, was arrested in the 7th grade for saying stupid crap (charged with a "terroristic threat" which was plea bargained down to disorderly conduct w/o even stepping into a courtroom).
It's easier for the authorities to lock kids up rather than deal with a national gun problem...
