Here's the AP story on what happened today. I guess a lesson for all of us is to remember when you write those texts someday they might be read out loud in federal court:

(17,154 posts)SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) One-time entrepreneur Elizabeth Holmes, under questioning by prosecutors, struggled Tuesday to recall key events that led to her facing criminal fraud charges for allegedly fleecing investors and customers of her failed blood-testing startup Theranos.
Her cross-examination began the day after she shared painfully vivid memories of alleged abuse by her ex-lover and business partner, Sunny Balwani.
In between bouts of hazy recollection, Holmes wept on the witness stand after the federal prosecutor interrogating her asked to read aloud some of the amorous texts that she and Balwani exchanged during a five-year period while they were running Theranos and living together in a stealth romantic relationship.
U are Gods tigress and warrior. You are extraordinary, Balwani cooed to Holmes in a 2015 documents displayed in court Tuesday. Holmes quickly responded with this text: Coming from my tiger means the whole universe to me.

(24,468 posts)You knew this had to be in the storyline. But now, I wonder....who was really calling the shots in Theranos? Need more info on the Balwani guy. great name, btw,

(24,468 posts)This is a bigtime swindle and she was the person in charge. She's well documented on her claims and I bet the shareholder's heard a lot of happy stories directly from her mouth.
No, she is going down and it's going to ruin her expectations of her planned life.

The story does have all the elements that can make life interesting and dangerous: sex, money, power and greed. All with a Silicon Valley twist.
I'm sure she's facing a lot of time if convicted. I thought before the trial she was likely to be found guilty. I haven't read anything that would change my mind.

(1,939 posts)To elicit "sympathy," and make her appear a little more human. She is one rather amazing piece of work. Been following along on one of the podcasts. I re-read the New Yorker article (pre-meltdown) recently. Geeze, the lies.

Was available from the library. What a story, hard to believe it's real. Influential people who should have known better were completely snookered. Unfortunately, the nonfunctioning and inaccurate medical tests hurt many people. The author of "bad blood" is following up with a podcast as the trial unfolds.

(20,682 posts)All the stories are true. They were in over their heads from the start. Anything but a total agreement with her was met with immediate firing. Calling her a narcissist is like calling King Kong hairy. Niagara Falls wet.

(38,556 posts)I haven't been following it very closely. Is it taking so long because there is an overwhelming amount of evidence? (I ask that because I saw the documentary on this story... lots of former employees that backed the fraud charges.)

(7,611 posts)Whistleblowers who quit in disgust, little people who were screwed over by bad tests. The defense just started by calling her. I can't think of what else they might have.
