Former Vice President Mike Pence said he believes he did the right thing when he certified the results of the 2020 presidential election in January, ignoring then-President Trumps repeated requests that he object to the vote.
Pence, in an interview with Christian Broadcasting Network that is set to air on Thursday, said he knows in his heart of hearts he did the right thing on Jan. 6.
He added that despite some concerns he had with the vote, his oath of office required him to protect and defend the Constitution, which he believes he did by going against Trumps orders and certifying the results.
On Jan. 6, I said that I believe there were irregularities about which I was concerned, and I wanted them to have a fair hearing before the Congress, but from the founding of this nation forward, it's been well established that elections are to be governed at the state level and that the only role that Congress has is to open and count the electoral votes that are submitted by states across the country, no more, no less than that, Pence said.

(4,002 posts).... Saying her had "some concerns" about the vote is enabling the Big Lie. What concerns? What evidence? What about all the recounts showing Biden won? What was his concern? I've yet to hear ANY of these Republican Trump supporters actually EXPLAIN what their concern is. It's all a bunch of innuendo and lies.

(26,168 posts)Still perpetuating the Big Lie, still mealy-mouthing his way through the situation, still not brave enough or ethical enough to just outright own his actions on behalf of the country. Pence is pathetic.

(19,862 posts)he's super duper happy that states are ensuring that they can steal elections before they get to the point where anyone at the federal level would have to make a decision about it via voter suppression, replacing elections boards with partisans who will overturn election results if they aren't to their liking, and stat legislatures who can choose the winners if they don't like how the vote went.
He's a weak little man.

He frames it like he did something heroic. Even the part of his refusing to do what Drumpf pressured him to do was not heroic because he had the cover of the Constitution.
I remember 2000, when GORE was performing the duty and Congresswoman Maxine WATERS stood up at the big bench, weepingly imploring GORE about her despair at the votes and he impassively dismissed the Congresswoman because there was no recourse.
Yip, (PENCE) "He's a weak little man." He hangs on to the politics public trough of office holding because he's got nothing else, not to mention no character. He was about to lose on his own when Drumpf was pushed by Javanka to pick him as veep, so he gratefully became a pathetic lackey. Now back on his own he's desperate to find a public trough to slurp at.
Seems incredible that he can be so self-deceived that he thinks he can be a contender. Zero character, zero charisma, just a nonentity.

(19,862 posts)to look more closely at his delusions and recognize that he is that weak little man.
It's the same with most of them, they bloviate and bluster because they know deep down that they are lying to themselves.

(17,910 posts)He should have used the 25th Amendment to assume command that day and had Trump arrested. He had Pelosi on his side, and I think he could have had anyone else on his side that he wished that day. Evidence against Trump could have been compiled while the trail was still warm, and the trial could have happened already. But Pence hesitated and then lost his nerve, so now we're dealing with the results, with Trump planning another possible coup and a comeback. If we see Trump return to power, we'll have Pence to thank to a large extent.
