$10,000 rewards for parents of teen accused in deadly Michigan school shooting

https://www.localmemphis.com/article/news/nation-world/michigan-school-shooting-parents-charged/507-62a1e021-f8c3-402b-b1c6-2ac6a420dd61

Rewards of $10,000 were announced Friday night by the U.S. Marshals office for the parents of a teen accused of killing four students at a Michigan high school this week. They were charged Friday for involuntary manslaughter with prosecutors saying they failed to intervene on the day of the tragedy despite being confronted with a drawing and chilling message — “blood everywhere” — that was found at the boy’s desk.

Late Friday night, the U.S. Marshals Office announced rewards of $10,000 for each of them. Tips can be reported to 313-202-6458.

Snip

On Tuesday, a teacher found a note on Ethan’s desk and took a photo. It was a drawing of a gun pointing at the words, “The thoughts won’t stop. Help me,” McDonald said.

More at link. Why was this kid not immediately admitted to a psych hospital????

But parents ABSOLUTELY should have donne so!

And, imho, school should have immediately suspended him, pending a full psych eval!

Hindsight is always 20/20, but I can assure you the one similar situation I encountered as a mental health professional resulted in IMMEDIATE psych ward intake!

Boggles the mind that this kid was allowed to stay in school!

5. I get it. And definitely best for patient, short-term and long-term.

But I can see admin hoping things would get better. And, I bet parents made it clear they’d sue.

But like you say, “hindsight is 20/20,” as is hoping parents will step up, and unaware parents hadn’t already made a firearm available.

2. It'd be great if they hooked up with some nutjobs willing to help. As long as it doesn't end up

in a shootout. Might be interesting to find out just where they thought they could run to, and who ends up trying to help them.
