(21,511 posts)so convinced of a coming war between the left and the right, and that the right wing would win, that they tried to persuade me to move out of my northern blue state to be near them where they could protect me.
One of them passed away last year. The other one continues to believe that I should join him and his family. We are polar opposites politically, but maintain some familial loyalty from bonds formed in childhood.
This ad looks like a promotion to prepare for war. The timing is disgusting after the Oxford school shooting, but it looks to me like a shameless capitalization on the shootings to promote the "need" to be armed and ready for a bigger event.
Irish_Dem
(47,166 posts)Another disgusting meme. And yes, especially after more innocent school children have been slaughtered.
Yes I know, what can we do about some of our crazy cousins. But for you to move to a red state to be "protected" is crazy, yes.
I agree, the magats are preparing for all out war against the Dems. Southern and western states want to fight the civil war all over again. The GOP is at war with us.
wnylib
(21,511 posts)to my cousin's state in the South. I won't even visit there during the pandemic and over the summer, I discouraged him from coming here when he was nearby at his in-laws' family reunion. All those possibly infected people, plus whoever he encountered on the trip north? No way. He was upset with me for it, took it personally and contacts me less now.
My small city is surrounded by rural magats, but at least here I know who the sane people are through local social and political activism. So if real fighting ever does break out, I know who my allies here are.
The right wingers are so fanatical about pushing for civil war that I think there is a possibility that they will achieve at least some violent social unrest. In that case, a red state is the last place I'd want to be.
Irish_Dem
(47,166 posts)One of my cousins is a kindred spirit and she and I have the same views about safety issues.
She and I have made contingency plans in the event things turn violent and ugly.
The southern states seem delusional to think they could win the second civil war. Yes exactly, the last place I would want to be.
They are winning it however in the sense that their backward and racist ideas are infecting the whole country.
wnylib
(21,511 posts)but I know some people that I could contact if necessary.
I have no relatives in my community, not even in my state. They are scattered around the country - SC, AZ, GA, PA. So locally, I rely on friends.

(33,345 posts)Conservative Gunners are afraid of Minorities and they hate Leftists. They're not afraid of schoolkids, but they'll argue that Rampage Shootings in public schools aren't reason enough to curtail their right to self defense against minorities and leftists.

I think my brain stopped working as I look at it. What is this mindset? It reads like unhinged Tumblr, where anyone outside the radicalized group recognizes the crazy for what it is, but those involved perceive everything as totally normal.
"9MM, 5.56, 300 blackout anything!" What is that? The desperation of a five year old in mittens.
Not too much phases me on the internet, but something about this is deeply unsettling. The perversion of childhood innocence into that.
